Theme Thursday: A Very Fitzgerald Wedding

Everyone has Great Gatsby fever thanks to Baz Luhrmann and Leonardo DiCaprio! From bob haircuts to extra long strands of pearls to tea length dresses, the style of the Roaring 20s is back.  This luxurious yet free style can easily be translated into dreamy wedding decor.  We’re here to show you how to throw a West Egg-worthy wedding reception right here in the West End (or anywhere else in RVA, of course).

The good news is, it’s hard to go over-the-top with a Gatsby-themed wedding.  Luxe is the name of the game, so be sure to include plenty of gold, pearls, bling, and black.

A Daisy Buchanan-inspired headpiece is perfect for a Fitzgerald wedding.  Of course, Tiffany’s made most of Carey Mulligan’s headpieces for the recent movie, but you can search online or ask your hair/makeup team where to find the best piece for you.  Just make sure you feel comfortable and that it’s you.

A champagne fountain like the one above is fairly easy to create and will surely make a statement as your guests enter the room.  Check with your caterer about what types of champagne flutes are best suited for this kind of structure.

Geometric shapes are also perfect for a Gatsby wedding.  You can incorporate a certain pattern or shape in your paper goods (invitations, programs, menus, escort cards, etc.), your cake, your groom’s and groomsmen’s socks, the list goes on.  I love the idea of using snazzy 3-D geometrics on the cake!

Of course, you cannot say enough about fringe when it comes to creating a Roaring 20s wedding.  A word of caution though: you can go a little too far with fringe.  Avoid being too theatrical with fringe-laden flapper dresses for the bridesmaids!  Keep it modern with clutches and headpieces like the pins below.  You might even consider a bit of fringe detail for your linens and favor bags for the guests.

Don’t forget about the chic 20s trend of fur stoles!  These are perfect for a Gatsby wedding, and it will definitely look very Vogue in your photos!  Just make sure your stole doesn’t clash with the style of your gown.

You might also add fringe plumes to your bouquet for a simple modern nod to flapper style.  It’s a gorgeous detail that will also look great in photos.  Plus, it’s super unique and can be incorporated into your floral centerpieces.

If you’ve seen the movie or plan to soon, pay attention to Daisy’s style!  It’s meant to be a more modern take on the 20s, so take notes. ;)
