So, you’re engaged and you know exactly what you want, but with so many magazines and expertly crafted Pinterest boards it seems impossible to pick just one trend. One month you swear you’ve found your perfect dress, then the next month you log onto Instagram and find an even MORE perfect dress. In this day and age, this cycle of indecisiveness could be endless. But have no fear, help is here! Here’s a list of current (and not so current) trends that are emerging this year. With everything from make-up to tablescapes, think of this as your go-to reference when navigating the wide world of wedding planning.

Fare: Try using seasonal inspiration for your dining experience to wow your guests. Think of your favorite places to eat and drink together as a couple. Use those favorite flavors, your wedding season, and local fare to enhance the menu!  The spices and array of sauces in your cuisine should play off of the location of your reception or give guests a taste of your lives together.  Let the culinary experience be unique to your event and give your guests something to talk about!

Hair: The name of the game is braids! Loose braids and low braided up-dos are two of the top emerging looks.

Make-Up: Makeup this year will have a natural look, with bold lashes, pink lips, and subtle highlighting.

Clothing & Accessories: Capes & Capelets are a great addition to the bridal style this year and are perfect for the colder months! They completely transform the look of a gown and the visual change for the ceremony, portraits, and reception can reinvent your aesthetic!

Pro tip: According to trend, leave these in 2017: Monogrammed clutches for bridesmaids and “formal” beaded purses for mothers of the bride.

Tablescapes: Textured linens are still building momentum and will continue to make their statement at Virginia weddings in 2018-2019. Printed linens for cocktail hours and cake tables will be a hit – paisley, stripes, polka dots, palm leaves – you name it – bring on the patterns! Rose gold flatware, dishware, and catering accents will reinvent the look of previous wedding color schemes accented in gold or silver.

Floral Design:  For your florals, the wilder the better! Try having your florist build a variety of greenery textures in arrangements and bouquets with a wild and “untamed” look. Using various shades of the color palate to stimulate the eye, choose your main wedding color and build with shades slightly darker and lighter. This is a great recipe for a stunning floral display with lots of visual interest. Pops of white or ivory also really help to set off the look!

Other Trends: Brunch weddings are a great alternative to the traditional late-night reception and are quickly gaining momentum. Think outside the box with ideas like premium cappuccino bars or gorgeous displays on a donut/pastry bar setup. Don’t forget the biscuit bars for those guests who prefer savory flavors! Large-scale décor elements are in! Gone are the days of the small centerpieces and a fern by the altar. Think larger than life custom built bar displays, ceremony sites, and backdrops for sweetheart or cake tables!
