Tell us a little about your venue!
Historic Mankin Mansion hosts garden weddings April through October each year for up to 200 guests with full service wedding planning for all our brides and grooms. Our lovingly restored 100 year old estate is listed on the National and State Registry of Historic Landmarks and offers a calm & private setting for guests to enjoy all to themselves. We are very proud to provide our brides, grooms and their families with a very warm, welcoming and elegant environment to celebrate their most relaxing & amazing day! Our clients hail from all over the country and choose from our One Day Wedding or Weekend Wedding Packages which affords their guests the comfort of overnight stays for a destination-style celebration.
Why and how did you become involved in the business?
My husband, Martin, and I have been in the wedding industry for over 30 years combined and find that it is not just our calling, but our privilege to be a part of one of the best days in a couple’s life. To be thanked in any way for helping make their day so special is what hooked us from the very beginning!
What’s your favorite part of a typical day?
My favorite part of my day is two fold. First is sharing in the excitement of new love & new beginnings, it is truly infectious. Whether it is a phone call, an email or during a meeting, sharing in brides & grooms as well as their families’ joy is extraordinary. Second is on wedding days. The overwhelming gratitude we receive from our Mankin brides & grooms is immeasurable!
Who gives you the best advice about your work?
The best advice we get is from our clients. Our brides, grooms and their families often come up with new and beautiful ways to make their wedding day unique to them. Their wonderful ideas enable us to improve upon what we offer future brides & grooms!
What accomplishments are you most proud of?
I am personally most proud of restoring this amazing and historic gem that was in ruins when we found it in 2004. Bringing it back to life and filling it with love and celebration has been a very humbling and gratifying experience.
What part of your job would you gladly give up?
The only part of my job that I would give up is the tremendously long hours. We work so diligently for our business that, as most parents would say, it takes more time away from our family than we would like. We do our best, however, to make it up to our children in the wintertime!
What do you do to relax/unwind?
To relax and unwind we love to travel as often as possible, plan for the future, eat great food and drink oodles of wine!
What would we be surprised to learn about you?
What people are most surprised about me is that I think anything is possible and I love a challenge!
