Real RVA Weddings: Katryna & Aaron
Katryna & Aaron
June 20, 2015
How They Met
“Aaron and I are the definition of high school sweethearts. We had mutual friends that introduced us. We have been together for 10 years this summer, so it was only fitting that we get married! People call us crazy, I call us lucky. Not many people can say that they found the person that they want to spend their life with at the age of 15. I say we are lucky because finding each other saved us from potentially awkward first dates and/or bad breakups!”
How He Asked
“We got engaged in December of 2014. I knew we would be getting engaged at some point because I had gone with him to pick out the ring months before. He told me that we were going to a holiday party with friends at the Hilton Short Pump. When we got there, he said one of his friends had reserved a room for the night and we were going to go meet him there. I walked into the room only to find rose petals everywhere and when I turned around to ask him what was going on, I found him on one knee with the ring in his hands.”
Classic Richmond
Since Aaron & Katryna had many guests coming to Richmond for the first time, they wanted their wedding to showcase the best of RVA. Their venues, Cathedral of the Sacred Heart & The Bolling-Haxall House, were chosen to show off two iconic Richmond spaces.
The Best Part
Katryna says, “Walking down the aisle was by far the best part of the day. I know everyone probably says that, but it almost felt surreal to me. I could not believe we were finally getting married. Aaron would say he enjoyed the reception and being able to catch up with old friends and family.”
The Ring
Katryna says, “My engagement ring is my most cherished possession. The diamond came from my maternal grandmother’s engagement ring. We found out she was terminally ill in the spring, and she passed away the week before our wedding. Even though she was not able to make it, it felt like I had part of her there with me on my finger.”
