Real Richmond Wedding Vendor Spotlight: Amanda Beside Eric
We have fallen head over heels in love with Amanda Beside Eric! Read on to learn more about this talented husband and wife photography duo!
Tell us a little about your company!
We’re a husband and wife team that’s been lucky enough to work together for the past six years. Amanda Beside Eric is the result of our mutual love of wedding photography, and the realization that we’re a great team. For us, working with your spouse not only means having someone by your side that you trust implicitly, but also someone that really understands you.
How did you get started in this business?
It all started with our own wedding. We planned every detail of our day together, and photography was by far the hardest decision for us to make. How could it be so difficult to find someone personable and trustworthy to capture our day?! Not only that, we knew we wanted candid, clean, and classic images that would stand the test of time. We won the money for our first camera in a raffle and took that as a sign that we were meant to give couples a better experience than the one we had!
What’s your favorite wedding story??
We might not have just one, there’s too many to choose from!! Any day when the couple is truly excited to be marrying their best friend is our favorite. However, we’re always very flattered when we have couples that say we’re an inspiration for their marriage because they think we work well together.
If we’re allowed to be biased, Amanda would say when we photographed her sister’s wedding in Mexico. They decided to do a first look the day before the wedding, and when they saw each other it was the most amazing moment of relief and JOY!
Why do you like working with weddings?
We love working with weddings because we enjoy guiding couples through the day. We’re a confidant, an advisor, and a friend when they need one. Every wedding is similar, but each couple experiences it differently. We LOVE having couples that aren’t afraid to be authentic on their wedding day. It’s so important that they trust us and feel comfortable enough to let us in to those intimate moments, and I think that’s where we really excel.
What is the most difficult situation you have faced with a bride and how did you resolve it?
The most difficult situations are easily the ones where the day runs behind for reasons outside of our control. We’re sticklers for timeline, but that doesn’t mean we’ll be rushing things and making a stressful moment worse. When things are running behind, we keep the mood light and work behind the scenes to see what can be done. We’re flexible enough to keep things moving, and making up time where we can.
From a vendor’s perspective, what is the one best piece of advice you can offer to engaged couples?
As a vendor, we want you to trust that we’ll take care of you! We’ve been here before many, MANY times.
As a married person we would say: Don’t feel pressured to have a wedding that matches the trends or expectations of your friends, or your family, or your Pinterest board. We know from experience that the personal details and moments we included in our day were a huge hit with everyone because they made US happy. And plan your wedding together! It will teach you invaluable lessons about budgeting and compromise that will serve you well in your marriage!
How far in advance should couples book your services?
We typically book dates about a year in advance. The exception being very busy months like May, June, and October, which can book 18-24 months before the day.
What inspired you the most / where do you find inspiration?
So much of our inspiration comes from classic art and architecture. The way that things were made so well that they not only last, but they get more beautiful with age.
What do you like to do when you are away from work?
Most of the time you’ll find us working on our 1790s French Huguenot home. We moved in the summer of 2015 and ever since it’s been a seemingly endless list of projects. When you can pull us away from the house we LOVE touring historic buildings! Our favorites are the Biltmore, the Darwin Martin House (in Buffalo, NY), and pretty much all of Colonial Williamsburg. Other than that, we adore camping in the mountains of Virginia.
What would we be surprised to learn about you?
We’re pretty geeky. Besides an interest in history, we’re big Doctor Who fans, and highschool sweethearts that met in marching band!
