Real RVA Wedding: Hayley & Webb

How They Met
“Webb and I met in high school when I was a freshman and he was a sophomore. Webb was taking one of my friends out to Red Robin, and I went along as a bit of a third wheel. On the way to the restaurant, I was sitting in the backseat, and Webb and I kept laughing at the same jokes and making eye contact with each other in the rear view mirror. We ended up sitting together at the restaurant, and the rest was history! We started hanging out constantly afterward, going on ice cream dates and meeting each other’s families. We drifted apart when it came time for college, which was a good thing because when we gravitated back to each other about a year and a half later, we knew we were meant to be. After college, we both moved back to our hometown of Mechanicsville, and a year later, Webb proposed!”
How He Asked
“We bought a house about ten minutes from each of our parents’ houses, tucked in the country of Mechanicsville, yet still close to everything we need. We had been living there for two months when it was April 2nd. I was in the kitchen working on report cards (Hayley is an elementary school teacher) when Webb pulled in the driveway from work. I saw him on his iPad in the car after he pulled up, but I didn’t think much of it. He came inside, changed his clothes to work in the yard/garden (which he loves doing) and went outside. About three minutes later, he came to the open kitchen window and asked me to come outside to help him with something. Reluctantly, I agreed. We walked over to the garden, where Webb had a few days earlier accidentally dug up some kind of wire. He asked what he should do with the wire to which I responded, “I don’t know! Is that what you needed me out here for? I turned my head, looked back at him and realized he was on his knee. He had the ring out and said some things I can’t exactly remember (my heart was pounding so fast!) and asked me to marry him. His younger sister had been hiding in the yard and filming the whole thing. She ran out and that’s when it hit me: I was engaged! Oh, and that iPad — Webb had set that up on the windowsill to record the whole thing. I feel so lucky to see our garden each year and think of that perfect day.”
The Perfect Place
“I had looked at a few venues around Richmond with my dad, but none seemed quite right for Webb and I. A friend suggested New Kent Winery, so Webb and I went one day to look at it. As soon as we stepped out of the car, we knew this was where we wanted to have our wedding. It was so beautiful with nothing around but vineyard vines and trees, not to mention the amazing building, which because of rain, ended up being the perfect location for our ceremony.”
Decor Details
“I didn’t have any kind of theme in mind, but I knew I wanted light, neutral colors. Our home is decorated mostly in grays, whites and tans, as I find those colors easy on the eye, so I started with that. I’ve always loved the new trend of blush bridesmaids dresses and knew they would look beautiful for our summer wedding. I added in hints of gold, grays and tans.”
“I also found while planning and doing some DIY wedding decorations that I could do handwritten calligraphy on all of my signs! There were a lot of handwritten chalkboard signs around our wedding. I really wanted things to be elegant, but traditional and simple at the same time.”
“I put a lot of effort and planning in having everything perfectly flow together, from the cake and cupcakes, to the signs, to the napkins and tablecloths, but I honestly wanted my guests to be most impressed by the fun had at the wedding. This was accomplished! We had had so many friends talk about how much fun they had at our wedding, and I know Webb and I did, being on the dance floor the whole night.”
The Best Part
“I absolutely loved dancing at our wedding. I loved seeing all of my friends and family having so much fun. Even the people who didn’t care to dance sat at their tables with huge smiles on their faces. I loved seeing my mom dancing and smiling. She was a big help during the wedding and nothing would have gone the way I wanted it to without her.”
“I would have to say both Webb’s and my FAVORITE part of the day was our sparkler send-off. Though it meant it was time to leave and end our amazing night, it was a time where we both got to see all of our family and friends without dancing or craziness going on. We walked through the sparklers, about to get in the limo, but turned around and personally said goodbye to everyone, giving hugs and “˜I love yous for about another 5-10 minutes. Someone later said, “˜That was the longest send-off I’ve ever seen!”
