Real RVA Wedding: Ryan & Sean
Ryan & Sean
September 27, 2014
How He Asked
Sean proposed on Christmas Eve in 2013. Ryan says, “We were lounging around the house before going to family festivities. Sean had placed the ring box on the top shelf in the refrigerator in the garage. He then asked me to go get him a Mountain Dew. Not having the slightest idea that this was coming, I did. However, I completely overlooked the bedazzled ring box. I went back inside, drink in hand, to find Sean with a dumbfounded look on his face. Not knowing what I missed, he sent me back into the garage. Needless to say, I found it the second time. I brought the box back inside where we both started laughing hysterically. My hands started shaking as I was opening the box. Once I took the ribbon off, the box fell to the floor. I picked the box up, opened it, and the ring fell to the floor again. We were laughing uncontrollably the entire time. I said, “”™What’s this?”™ to which Sean replied, “˜I”™m TRYING to ask if you”™ll marry me!”™ I excitedly replied, “Of course!”™”
Decor Details
Going for a rustic, romantic look, Ryan chose peach, blush, rose, and taupe. The couple worked with their wedding planner, Emmett Hickam of Richmond Bridal Consulting, to make their romantic vision come to life. Ryan especially loved her linens from Black Iris Floral Events — they were taupe underneath with sheer white and polka dot overlays.
The couple wanted their wedding to stand out musically, as Sean is a very talented musician and songwriter himself. They had a DJ as well as a live band and a close friend, Foster, who traveled from L.A. to perform. With Sean’s groomsmen, Foster planned a surprise that took place during the sparkler exit. He played guitar while the groomsmen took turns serenading the newlyweds with Springsteen’s “If I Should Fall Behind.”
The Best Part
Ryan & Sean loved having their entire families together. Ryan says, “Just being surrounded by all of our favorite folks (many came from out of state), was the best feeling in the world. We both had a moment during the reception where we took a deep breath, looked around and smiled, because we knew that it was a once-in-a-lifetime affair, and that most likely we would never get that entire group of people together in the same place again. It was a spectacular day!”
