We are thrilled to introduce you all to Melinda, the owner of Sugar Fix Bakery!  We can personally attest for the fact that these cookies are DELICIOUS!  The only thing is . . . they were almost too pretty to eat!

Tell us a little about your company!

Sugar Fix Bakery services the Richmond, VA and surrounding areas for all their custom cookie and cupcake needs. We offer beautifully decorated custom sugar cookies and delicious cupcakes for your special event. We also have selection of gourmet sweets (rice crispies, brownies, muffins, cinnamon rolls, chocolate chip cookies, oatmeal raisin cookies, etc.) Our customers always come back for more!

Customer satisfaction is a must for our bakery. Stop in and visit our vintage bakery in Ashland, VA (aka The Center of the Universe).

How did you get started in this business?

I started my love for decorating cookies as a young child. Every holiday my sisters and I looked forward to baking and decorating. Once I became a “grown up,” I started using some of the skills my mother taught me and started making cookies for family and friends. That is when my business began to blossom. Here I am 5 years later opening my own store front and servicing wonderful customers all over the world. It is such a blessing to be able to be doing something I love.

What differentiates you from other businesses in your field?

Our cookies and cupcakes are as delicious as they are beautiful. Once you visit our bakery you will feel like you have stepped back in time to the 50’s. Our vintage decor was a vision I planned right down to what we wear in the bakery. You must stop in to experience it!

We also have a wonderful friendly staff that will work with you to get the exact look or taste you want. Customer service and satisfaction is important!

Why do you like working with weddings?

We love working with clients that are planning to start the next chapter of their life together. Working with them to get the vision that is perfect for their event or wedding day is such a fun challenge. We get it! We want your ideas and taste to be exactly what you have dreamed it would be.

From a vendor’s perspective, what is the one best piece of advice you can offer to engaged couples?

Plan hard, but enjoy the process. Planning is so key in getting your wedding day just how you envision it, but don’t forget to stop and take little breaks to enjoy the moments of planning. Set aside some extra time at the end of a taste testing, photographer meeting, venue visit, etc. to have quiet time as a couple. Having that down time in the midst of planning can be just the key to surviving wedding planning.

What or who motivates you?

I have many motivators in my life and boy am I thankful for each of them. My customers, family and friends motivate me and keep me thinking of new and exciting things.

What do you like to do when you are away from work?

I love being at the bakery, but I LOVE spending time with my family and friends. If I am not at the bakery, you can probably find me in my “mom taxi” on my way to or from the ball field. Having six children can keep a girl busy, and I love every moment of it.

What would we be surprised to learn about you?

It took me five  vacations to finish a novel. Yes, five! Having six  children, sitting and reading a book sometimes is hard to do but I would not trade those years for anything.
