Meet Joanne Bogese, the event sales specialist at The Boathouse at Sunday Park!
How did you get started in this business?
I actually started as a meeting planner in NY. When I moved to Richmond, I started in the wedding business at a hotel and have loved it ever since!
What’s your favorite wedding story?
My wedding story, of course! Being in the business, I thought I had everything planned to the “T.” Well, I was wrong! I didn’t plan for it to rain ALL day. In addition, the limo got a flat tire and the car went to the wrong place at the end of the night, so my husband and I were left at the wedding venue. We ended up getting a ride to the hotel in my brother’s old Mitsubishi Galant. It gives us something to laugh about now!
Why do you like working with weddings?
I love working with people and hearing each couples’ story. Each story is unique but all are love stories.
From a vendor’s perspective, what is the one best piece of advice you can offer to engaged couples?
At the end of the day, the marriage is the most important thing. The wedding is just one day, and while you want this day to be special, remember not to sweat the small stuff. Keep your eye on the prize: a lifelong marriage filled with love, laughter and happiness.
What inspired you the most/where do you find inspiration?
My colleagues inspire me daily. We are all different and bring diverse attributes to the team. I am constantly learning from them.
What do you like to do when you are away from work?
Relax, spend time with my family, watch reality TV, read, and play on Facebook.
What would we be surprised to learn about you?
I went from living and working in NY to living in rural Prince George, VA. What a change!
