Richmond Wedding Vendor Spotlight: Capture Photography
We have some first-hand experience working with one half of Capture Photography! Jenny did our new team photos for this issue, and we love how they turned out! She was a breeze to work with. Today on the blog, we’re excited to introduce to Jenny and the second half of Capture Photography, Allison!
Tell us a little about your company!
We are TWO lead photographers, Jenny & Allison. We specialize in weddings for couples who are excited about their photos and hands-on with their wedding plans. We love working with clients who are just invested in their photography as we are!
How did you get started in this business?
We often say we were business partners before we were friends. While studying photography together at VCU School of the Arts, we were assigned to work in the studio together, and that project went on to win a fellowship in photography from the VMFA. Around the same time, we shot a wedding together just for experience, and it went so well that we decided to continue working together!
What differentiates you from other businesses in your field?
Because we have been shooting weddings together for so many years, we have a communication style that is similar to what you share with your soon-to-be spouse. We can exchange a look from opposite ends of the room that means “Hey, get that shot!” and never have to say a word. We also each bring different strengths to the table, both business wise and photographically. One of our favorite things is combining our images after each wedding and seeing how much stronger our work becomes when it’s together. It never gets old!
Why do you like working with weddings?
At the end of the day, our images are meaningful not only the brides and grooms, but to their future children and grandchildren. It is such a rewarding experience to provide a couple with photos that they will treasure for the rest of their lives.
From a vendor’s perspective, what is the one best piece of advice you can offer to engaged couples?
Our best piece of advice to couples planning their wedding is to schedule an engagement session. For many people, the wedding day is their first time in front of professional cameras. We don’t expect our brides and grooms to be models — we consider it part of our job to make you feel comfortable with the photography experience. We are better equipped to do so if we understand how you respond to us and how you interact with each other. Plus, an engagement session is a fabulous way to treat yourself during the process of wedding planning!
What or who motivates you?
Love stories motivate us. That’s why you may see us wiping a tear away during your ceremony. Watching the devotion, affection and commitment two people share on a wedding day is nothing short of incredible.
What do you like to do when you are away from work?
Since we both have BFAs in photography, we love traveling together to international art fairs! Art Basel in Miami is a favorite of ours; it’s great to feel inspired and challenged by the world of fine art.
What would we be surprised to learn about you?
We’re both engaged . . . and our wedding dates are exactly one year apart! It’s really fun to experience this side of wedding planning together. And no, we are not photographing each others weddings. We are hiring our favorite professionals so we can enjoy the day. 🙂
