Richmond Wedding Vendor Spotlight: Sound Snap Photography
Meet Ashley, the new owner of Sound Snap Photography!
Tell us a little about your company!
We are Sound Snap Photography, a studio based in Richmond, Virginia. For over 6 years, Sound Snap has worked internationally shooting weddings, editorials, boudoir, and lifestyle spreads, so we are more than happy to travel wherever your day may take us! We believe that your special moments deserve to be cherished and pride ourselves on being both affordable and professional by building packages that cater to your needs as a client and partner.
As a growing team, Sound Snap and its sister boudoir studio, Pink Photography, also supply a full staff of photographers, graphic designers and our amazingly talented videographers at Pretty In Ink to make sure the best producers are working to make albums, films, and banners all to commemorate your wedding.
How did you get started in this business?
I started doing concert photography while working in radio and found a love of storytelling which I carried into boudoir, fashion, conceptual work, publications, engagements, family portraits, events, maternity, live shows and wedding photography.
What differentiates you from other businesses in your field?
By keeping the environment lighthearted and friendly, I invite my ladies into the studio as if they were one of my friends. By consistently working to be more inclusive and body-positive, all of my clients feel empowered and beautiful through their experience, regardless of age, body type, gender identity, etc.
Why do you like working with weddings?
I consider my clients friends through the process of working together, and in that, I find that shooting weddings means I have a rare and wonderful chance to both witness and capture a precious and often rare expression of love that should be cherished forever.
What is the most difficult situation you have faced with a bride and how did you resolve it?
I am sad to say I once had a bride who was incredibly insecure about her skin. After hearing her concerns, I did my best to not only assuage any worries she had but also made sure I went into the photos to address anything that made her feel insecure.
From a vendor’s perspective, what is the one best piece of advice you can offer to engaged couples?
Research! Vendors come in all tiers of experience and personality, so it is crucial that you read up on your photographers and look for someone who you can bond with personally and professionally. There are photographers who may seem cheaper and therefore a better deal, but there is more often than not a reason that photographers cost what they do. Top tier artists work to not only capture your day beautifully but also want to make sure you are satisfied before, during and after the wedding. Be sure you don’t limit yourself by only choosing the cheapest!
What or who motivates you?
My passion and overwhelming love for photography is really what keeps me going, but it is also so important to acknowledge the mentors and friends I have made through this line of work. The entire experience of photographing someone and watching their excitement as they see themselves as beautifully as everyone else does is really an eye-opening experience.
What do you like to do when you are away from work?
I have become so enamored with my photography that I am hardly away! And honestly, it is a dream to love what I do so much and be able to travel and truly experience my life to the fullest while working and loving what I do.
What would we be surprised to learn about you?
While I spend most of my time behind the camera, I am also a performer! I dance and hula hoop, along with photographing other performers who do the same.
