Vendor Spotlight: Rob with Capt. Rob’s Pigalicious Signature Barbecue Catering
Meet Rob Wilhoite, President, and Pitmaster of Capt. Rob’s Pigalicious Signature Barbecue Catering. Read about his tips on keeping wedding day stress levels low, how he started cooking, and what would be in his dream sandwich!
What makes you or your business stand out and why should a couple hire you?
We are an onsite/from scratch barbecue company. We arrive early in the morning cooking all day and run a buffet meal and services until the end of the night. Clients hire us for our fresh, quality products and attention to details over the course of a 20 hour day.
What’s a weird/unusual tip you tell your couples?
Pretend that the wedding is just a big family meal and the preacher just happens to show up. This really keeps the stress levels down.
What’s your favorite thing about what you do?
The smile on everyone’s face as they enjoy our food.
If you care to share, how did you get to where you are now?
This is simple. I grew up in a kitchen learning from my grandma and mom each night as they cooked dinner. I am a people person and nothing makes folks happier than sitting at the table with a good meal. That makes 20 hour days a joy.
What’s something every couple should know before getting married?
Make sure you sit down at the table every day for at least 1 meal. It will keep you engaged with each other. No phones, No TV. Just each other.
What’s your go-to spot to eat in RVA?
What did you want to be when you were little? Astronaut? Firefighter? Wedding Planner?
Race Car Driver.
What was your first job?
Dishwasher at W. T. Grants.
What did you eat for breakfast this morning?
Grilled ham/cheese with tater tots.
What do you like to do when you are away from work? Or where is your happy place?
Happy Place – the Atlantic Ocean as the sun rises and a reel screaming. Capt. Rob’s got its name as I was a charter boat captain before bbq stole me from the sea.
What is your newest Netflix obsession? Or what is your favorite TV show?
I am old school, so NCIS.
What would be in your dream sandwich? (The sky is the limit!)
Buttermilk biscuit with fried chicken, country ham, fried egg, cheddar cheese and a dollop of sausage gravy.
Nachos. What would you put on yours? (Same as above!)
Pulled pork, shredded beef brisket, cheddar, pico, ranch-style pinto beans, and our tangy bbq sauce.
What’s your go-to dance move?
No clue because the bourbon has taken over to make me dance.
