Vendor Spotlight: Katherine Stafford with The John Marshall Ballrooms
Meet Katherine Stafford, Event Coordinator with The John Marshall Ballrooms. Katherine and the rest of the team will make your wedding dreams come true at the timeless and historical gem right in the heart of Richmond!
What makes you or your business stand out and why should a couple hire you?
One of the reasons I love The John Marshall is because it is so rich with history. Our venue is iconic and guests love knowing they are celebrating in ballrooms where people like Elvis Presley, Franklin Roosevelt, and Elizabeth Taylor once partied. I would tell any future couples that you can’t go wrong with choosing a place that is so timeless!
What’s a weird/unusual tip you tell your couples?
So I’m a little obsessed with The Office – anyone else remember Jim and Pam’s Wedding? In that episode, a relative tells Pam to take as many mental pictures as possible because on the day of the wedding everything goes by so fast. I think that is so important! Don’t let those meaningful moments slip by. You and your significant other need to pause, take a deep breath, and relish in all the beautiful moments on your big day!
What’s your favorite thing about what you do?
I’m a hopeless romantic. My favorite thing about what I do is meeting couples who clearly love each other and who are so deserving of a day just for the two of them.
How did you get to where you are now?
I went to VCU and studied Fashion Merchandising. No matter my career title, I will always stay active within the fashion community. One of my favorite things to do is blog about style and work with local boutiques. With that being said, I have always carried an interest in event planning. With my position at John Marshall, I am still able to carry over the marketing and creative skills I acquired while at VCU which is pretty awesome!
What’s something every couple should know before getting married?
Just like anything else in life, you can plan and plan as much as you want but sometimes things work out a little differently than expected. Trust us when we say, the unexpected moments that aren’t planned are sometimes the best!
What’s your go-to spot to eat in RVA?
This is so hard to answer. I love all kinds of food. Lately, I have been loving Little Nickel. The vacation vibe they have going on is so fun and the food is incredible!
What did you want to be when you were little?
It was a tie between an actress and a singer..then I realized I laugh way too much to hold a straight face and apparently, everyone sounds good in the shower.
What was your first job?
My first job was actually helping out at a wedding venue! However, it was much more of a manual labor job than anything else. But hey, everyone has to start somewhere!
What did you eat for breakfast this morning?
Well first, coffee. But I ate fresh fruit and a breakfast sandwich. Then more coffee.
What do you like to do when you are away from work?
Richmond has been growing so much! I feel like I can’t keep up with all the new breweries and restaurants. On my days off, my goal has been to try as many new places as I can.
What would be in your dream sandwich?
Oh wow, that’s tough. Did I mention how much I love any and all food? I don’t know if my culinary skills would qualify me to create my own sandwich but anything with avocado and bacon sounds good to me!
