Meet Tammy Edwards aka The Candy Lady! Specializing in all sorts of sweet buffets, Tammy can take your event to the next level. Get to know her today!

What makes you or your business stand out and why should a couple hire you?
Presentation is Everything! I take great pride in creating, designing and customizing sweets buffets, favors, gift boxes and baskets catered to the bride and groom’s taste. All buffets are uniquely designed and never duplicated. Why give your wedding guests favors that they will inevitably not even remember having? Give them something that they can enjoy, even after the wedding day is over. All sweets on your buffet, from popcorn to chocolate are adorned and placed in crystal, china, and high-end decorative glass bowls, decanters and serving trays. Wedding Sweets Buffets include customized gift boxes for the bride and groom (we know that you will not be visiting your sweets buffet), and a custom treat bag for children who may be serving as ring-bearers and flower girls. Your vision of YOUR day is my vision for your sweets buffet.

What’s a weird/unusual tip you tell your couples?
Even though you may like chocolate-covered gummy bears as your favorite candy, your guests may not. Choose sweets that accentuate your event style, color, season, and most importantly, sweets that your guests will adore. You want your event to POP!

What’s your favorite thing about what you do?
I love to see the delight in the face of someone who has filled his/her bag with the treats from my sweets buffets. I have never had anyone say, “I don’t like this!” Everyone leaves with a smile on their face, and everyone who leaves the buffet is only disappointed when the decanters are empty.

How did you get to where you are now?
My business was started after I designed a sweets buffet for a 30th high school class reunion. Everyone enjoyed it. Afterward, people began to ask me to create buffets for them. I did it only as a hobby first. However, after many requests, I rolled it into a business.

What’s something every couple should know before getting married?
Spend more time planning your marriage and your life than your wedding. Your wedding is for a day. Your marriage is forever. Love much. Love hard. Have fun!

What’s your go-to spot to eat in RVA?
My go-to spot may change from month to month, but now it is definitely Southern Kitchen. I love the historic Richmond history and atmosphere. And the food is really great!

What did you want to be when you were little?
As a child, I wanted to be a professional singer. In a way, that came true. I have a Bachelors’s degree in Vocal Music Education. I have sung for weddings, community and social events, political events as well as doing background singing on several projects.

What was your first job?
My first job was on the campus of Virginia State University as a Talent Coordinator. I was in high school at the time and worked to help young people like myself, decide what colleges and universities they would like to attend, as well as what they would like to study as a major.

What did you eat for breakfast this morning?
I ate whole-grain toast with pumpkin spice coffee. Love the flavors of Fall.

What do you like to do when you are away from work?
I am an elementary school teacher. I have been in education for 27 years. Creating and designing sweets buffets, as well as designing gift boxes, bags and treat bags, is my happy place. I also enjoy singing, reading, and shopping.

What are you currently binging on TV?
My favorite TV shows are suspenseful in nature. I love thrillers. I also love biographical films as well.

What’s the coolest thing you’re working on right now?
Right now, I am working to reignite the love for reading among the children I serve. We launched a new year of putting books in children’s hands that they could take home, read, and bring back to give someone else to read, this is called “Book Swap”. “Poppin’ into a Good Book” is our theme. Students were given popcorn, blow pops. books and stuffed animals. The stuffed animals were “reading buddies” for the younger children who often have no one at home to listen to them read.

What would be in your dream sandwich?
Right now, my dream sandwich is whole grain bread with cream cheese and cucumber.

What about Nachos?
Cheese and Salsa.

Finally, what’s your go-to dance move?
I love line dancing. Cupid Shuffle. The Wobble. And of course, The Git-Up dance.
