We just adore Tammy Edwards, The Candy Lady! She inspires many by day as a teacher and loves her family endlessly. We have enjoyed watching her business grow as she brings much joy and sweetness to every event. Learn about her latest project here!

How did you get to where you are now?
I began creating gift baskets, boxes and treat favor bags years ago for gifts to family and friends. After attending a wedding, I saw a candy table. I thought that this would be a wonderful addition to my high school class reunion, so I created one and it was a big hit. I started doing them as a hobby. After being asked several times to create these sweet tables, I began my business, The Candy Lady.

What makes you or your business stand out and why should a couple hire you?
The thing that makes my business stand out from others is presentation and detail. I listen to my client and their vision for what they want for their most memorable day. I go above and beyond to put a smile on the couple’s faces and the guests lips. I can give an added touch with designing customized bags for the children in the wedding, as well as favor boxes that are placed on the couple’s table for them to enjoy after the wedding. Additionally, I create customized gift baskets and boxes for the wedding party, parents and out of town guests.

What’s your favorite thing about working in the wedding industry?
My favorite thing about working in the wedding industry is seeing the smiles and hearing the “oohh’s and ahhhs” of the wedding party and guests. I love to be a part of the most memorable day of a couple’s life. It gives me great joy.

What’s a unique tip you tell your couples?
When it comes to the sweets table, choose options that you know your guests will enjoy. You may like chocolate covered potato chips, but will your guests? Your sweets table is a gift and favor to your guests. Don’t waste money on favors that will be thrown away before the wedding is over. Matches and napkins are cute, but no one will remember those. No one has ever forgotten the sweet treats that they take home from the treat table.

What’s your best piece of advice for couples planning a wedding?
When planning your wedding, don’t forget to plan your life after the aisle as a married couple. Most couples seek marriage counseling prior to their wedding day. Marriage is a union of not only the bride and groom, but also a union of families, traditions and culture.

What’s your favorite moment during a wedding?
My favorite moment during a wedding is the entrance of the bride. It is so emotional and beautiful.

What are your favorite wedding trends right now?
My favorite trend is seeing the union of the blended family. Children of the bride and groom often participate in the service by lighting a candle, or joining two vials of sand together to symbolize unity, and even brides who choose to allow their children to walk them down the aisle. These moments are priceless.

If you care to share, what’s a funny/awesome story from a wedding you’ve worked?
We have had many weddings canceled or postponed because of Covid 19. One of the weddings I worked initially had a guest list of 150 people. That number had to be reduced to 40 people. The bride and I chose to create a beautiful table with favor treat bags. The couple live-streamed their wedding and those guests who could not attend had their favors delivered to them so that they could still be a part of the couple’s most beautiful day.

How do you de-stress?
I have been an educator for approximately 30 years. I have taught kindergarten through third grade. I began creating sweets tables in order to destress from teaching. I am an avid reader and shopper. Also I love taking a day to lay around watching Netflix and spending time with my family.

What’s your favorite food/dish/cuisine?
My favorite food right now has to be my husband’s macaroni and cheese and his iced-tea that we call “Liquid Gold”.

If you were to meet any celebrity, who would it be?
Denzel Washington, without a doubt, is my favorite living celebrity. He always walks with integrity and dignity. I love his movies. He is a true role model for young people as well as old. He has roots in the state of Virginia. His father lived here. Oh, and by the way, he looks goooood!

What would your perfect Saturday be like?
My perfect Saturday is when I am doing an event for someone and they are pleased and happy with my work. I also enjoy shopping.

What are your top three favorite movies (or books)?
My top movies are Lion King, Black Panther and anything with Denzel Washington. My favorite books are the Bible, The Seven Habits of Highly Effective People and The Giving Tree.

What’s a fun or unusual fact about you?
I have a Bachelor’s degree in Vocal Music Education. I began singing for weddings when I was 13 years old.

What’s the coolest thing you’re working on now?
I am working on writing a book and publishing a song to be sung by my students.

What’s the best concert you’ve ever been to?
The best concert that I have ever attended was Stevie Wonder. He sounded better in person than he did on tape.

Do you love to travel?
I like to travel. I plan to travel to Africa in the near future to visit schools. I can’t wait to teach abroad.

What is your favorite season of the year and why?
My favorite is spring. It is when everything comes to life.

What’s your favorite family tradition?
My favorite family tradition is during the Christmas holiday. Before any gifts are opened, we all gather in the living room, pull out the family Bible, and one of the children reads the account of Jesus’ birth in the book of Luke.

Anything else you want our followers to know?
I create gifts and favors for all occasions.
