Wedding Budget Priorities: Why Hair & Makeup Should Be at the Top
By Amanda Perry
It’s the tough truth: weddings are expensive. At some point, you may have to strike things from your budget that aren’t as “important” to you. As a former bride, I understand completely! But hair and makeup was never something I was willing to skimp on, and here’s why:
1. Your wedding day hair and makeup is a once-in-a-lifetime look. It takes a special set of skills to make that look last for over twelve hours. You can’t trust that to your every day hairstylist unless they also specialize in wedding day hair and makeup. Choosing a team who specializes in weddings will make you feel comfortable, and they will be able to guide you to find that perfect wedding day look with your perfect stylist.
2. Your wedding pictures are going to hang on your walls forever! Think of how angry you”™d be to see smudges of mascara running down your face in every picture during your vows! Or how tacky it would look to have bobby pins showing all over your up-do in every photo that you spent some well-deserved dollars on. Choosing a professional will help to make sure that things are done to last, and that stylist will keep the photographer’s angles in mind to make sure those mishaps don’t happen.
3. It’s your day to be pampered! After planning your wedding for a year or more, you need to take a few hours for yourself and just relax on the morning of your wedding. Don’t overestimate your superwoman powers and think you’ll have time to do it yourself. Trust me, on the morning of my wedding, the last thing I wanted to do was think about getting my smoky eye looking right. I was so thankful to have someone do that for me!
4. You get what you pay for. Sure, some teams are going to be more expensive, but check their reviews. Former client testimonials always speak volumes about a business.
Think about these things, too: Do they answer your emails in a timely manner? Are they on time for any of your meetings or trial runs? Are they organized through the planning process and for the day of? Have they been around for more than a few years? Do you like the reputation they’ve earned? Are you excited to have that group with you on your wedding day bringing the energy and fun?
At the end of the day, all you have left are your photos and video of the big day to go along with your memories of how perfect your wedding was. Wouldn’t it be awesome to be so satisfied with your hair and makeup that every single picture you take, you want to frame on your wall? That’s what you should think of when you’re thinking about your bridal beauty!
