Kate would describe the beginning of her love story as “tragically millennial.” Brett found Kate via Instagram and sent a DM. Brett would have to ask Kate out at least four or five more times over the course of the next several months before she finally agreed to meet him for drinks at Hardywood. She came close to backing out, but she showed up, and they’ve been inseparable ever since!
The proposal was in Charlottesville the day after Kate’s birthday in January 2024. Brett brought all of Kate’s closest friends together to the snowy blue ridge mountains under the pretense of a birthday weekend vineyard hopping and popped the question at Veritas.
The wedding day can be described as coastal, bright, southern, whimsical, and elegant—just as Kate and Brett envisioned. Their “garden black tie” theme blended southern charm with elevated elegance, and their guests dressed the part. Every detail was personalized. Kate walked down the aisle with both parents, arranged the florals, and made the signage, menus, and seating chart with help from Brett and her dad. “It felt like us,” they shared. “Not a copy of someone else’s wedding.”
The forecast predicted rain all week, and Kate was devastated. But miraculously, the skies stayed clear until they read their personal vows. A soft mist began to fall. “It felt cinematic,” Brett said. The rain paused just as they kissed and walked back down the aisle. One guest whispered, “Your vows were so beautiful even God cried.”
Their advice? “Ignore anyone who tells you what’s ‘not important.’ If it matters to you, it matters. That’s what makes it yours.”
