Melissa & Kennon
September 18, 2020
How they met
Melissa and Kennon met by chance at PBR (Pizza and Beer of Richmond) in 2019. Melissa was there to grab a quick bite before a hair appointment and Kennon was watching a Spurs game. The two sparked up a conversation and realized they had a lot in common. Something must have immediately clicked between both of them – Melissa invited him to a Squirrels game she was going to that night with her family and he happily tagged along! Melissa says “First we were meeting up for lunch, then dinner, and before we knew it we were quarantined together.”
The proposal
Naturally they were engaged at PBR. Kennon proposed on June 17th 2020 on an ordinary trip to their favorite place with their favorite bartender there for the whole thing.
Planning the big day
Their original plan was an elopement in Maui. As they approached the date, Hawaii imposed travel restrictions due to COVID. The pair chose to stay in Richmond just in case restrictions were not lifted in time. The Jefferson was a venue they had visited often, so it was an easy choice to marry there. Their micro-ceremony included Kennon’s parents, his daughter, the pastor and the pastor’s wife.
Ceremony and other details
With so many things up in the air due to COVID, Melissa and Kennon were sure to remain flexible and positive. Even hours before the wedding, their ceremony location was moved outdoors to the Lemaire courtyard. An intimate dinner followed the romantic nighttime ceremony.
Favorite part of the day
“Definitely our photo shoot with Emily!”
Best advice
“Try to focus on the big picture and less about the small details in pleasing everyone else. This is YOUR day!”
