If you care to share, how did you get to where you are now?
I began my employment here when I was 16 in high school as a cart boy and bar back. Eventually I worked my way up through various positions. During my summers off from JMU I was working at Independence. After graduation I started full time!
What makes you or your business stand out and why should a couple hire you?
I find this venue very unique from the quality of food, in house beverage options and staff/employees. We have 4 ceremony sites, 3 event rooms and lots of amenities with the most beautiful sunset around. Another unique angle is we can make anything happen. Recently we had a helicopter landing sendoff! Also, our day of coordination is top notch with Meghan and Kacie.
What’s your favorite thing about working in the wedding industry?
Seeing how couples express themselves and personalize everything. I’ve seen hundreds of weddings – all are so different and unique!
What’s a unique tip you tell your couples?
One thing I find myself saying a lot is a reminder to take it all in. As your partner walks in, take a deep breath, look around and take it in.
What are your favorite wedding trends right now?
Champagne walls and unique seating charts. We’re seeing a lot of floral print cakes or water colors on cakes. Another fun trend is velvet textures on invitations, tables, and other elements throughout.

How do you de-stress?
Golf, of course! Also, walking with friends around Carytown, downtown, going to the VMFA and other museums and back yard fire pits.
What’s your favorite food/dish/cuisine?
Right now my favorite is Indian food. Specifically Tulsi in Carytown.
What are your favorite movies?
Star Wars, Airplane
What’s a fun or unusual fact about you?
I have 2 sisters named Lauren! (one is a step-sister)
What’s the best concert you’ve ever been to?
Dua Lipa – in DC
Do you love to travel?
I do love to travel. I’d love to get to Italy.
Do you have a pet?
I have 2! Charlie the beagle and a cat
What’s your favorite family tradition?
Every year over Memorial Day weekend (coming up!) my family does a pig roast in WV. We have over 120 people (friends and family) since 1982!
