Real RVA Wedding: Krittika & Luke

Last week, you met Lissa & Sheena, and today you get to meet our second cover couple, Krittika & Luke! We are so grateful that these two came out to our cover shoot and even more grateful that we get to share their gorgeous rustic Indian fusion wedding with you!

How They Met

After Luke and Krittika were introduced during their freshman year at Denison University, Luke made sure to get Krittika’s AIM screen name (those were the days!). He asked her out over Instant Messenger, and the rest is history!

How He Asked

Luke spent a long time figuring out the most special way to propose to Krittika. She had made two things clear: she wanted her family to be nearby to celebrate, and she wanted her dad to have given permission. Luke made sure to accomplish both. He got her entire family to spend Fourth of July in his home state of Vermont. On their second night there, Luke asked Krittika to take a sunset boat ride with him. He rowed them out into open water for the best views and got down on one knee to pop the question. Luke says, “She was a little confused at first because I had forgotten to take my grandmother’s ring out of my pocket, but once I remember and pulled myself together, she immediately said yes! As we got close to the dock I yelled, “˜She said yes!”™ and got a big cheer from all the friends and family waiting for us.”

From the Bride: “Yellow and red are significant in the Hindu culture. In Maharastra, the bride wears a yellow saree. I was able to have a custom saree tailored for my wedding to include yellow and blue.”

Rustic Fusion

Krittika and Luke wanted to incorporate both of their families into the wedding by creating their own rustic fusion theme. Krittika says, “The farm setting symbolized Vermont pastures and was a way for Luke to feel reminded of home while being in Virginia.”

Krittika continues, “The ceremony represented me. We conducted an Indian wedding ceremony. I was born in Pune City in the state of Maharashtra, India, and each region has its own unique customs, traditions and rituals. It was important for me to have Maharashtra customs included in my wedding ceremony because they are deeply meaningful, and the vows are with us not only for this lifetime but for seven lifetimes.”

Krittika’s friends and family even shopped for her wedding saree for her in India! They would send photos of themselves in sarees through Whatsapp, then they would hold Skype sessions to compare notes on sarees and jewelry. Her mother also ordered flowers from India via Amazon to make sure there were authentic pieces of India in everyone’s hair!

The Best Part

Krittika loved the very emotional marriage ceremony, but it was her father’s speech that brought everyone to tears.
