Today, we’re thrilled to welcome a new Richmond Weddings member: Kaytlyn, the creative force behind Kaytlyn Rei Photography. What began as a high school hobby has blossomed into her dream career. Keep reading to learn all about the woman behind the camera.

Tell us how many years have you been in the wedding industry.
I’ve been passionate about photography since high school, always drawn to the art of preserving moments in a beautiful, intentional way. After having my first daughter in 2022, I decided to turn that lifelong passion into a career, officially stepping into the wedding industry. In March 2025, I took the leap, leaving my 9-to-5 to pursue my business full-time. Capturing love stories with the same heart and dedication that first inspired me to pick up a camera.

What’s your specific role in the wedding process?

As a wedding photographer, I’m very hands-on with my couples long before the wedding day arrives. I guide them through timeline planning, help with location and lighting decisions, and make sure they feel comfortable in front of the camera so their photos feel effortless and genuine. On the wedding day, I combine that hands-on direction with a behind the scenes approach, capturing candid, emotional moments as they naturally unfold. My goal is to be both a calming presence and a storyteller, ensuring every detail and emotion is preserved beautifully.

When should couples book their services with you?

Most couples book their wedding photography with me 12–18 months in advance to ensure their date is secured. Especially during peak wedding seasons in spring and fall. While I occasionally have availability for shorter timelines, booking early allows us to plan your engagement session, fine tune your photography timeline, and ensure every detail is thoughtfully prepared for your wedding day.

What’s your most frequently asked question by engaged couples?
One of the questions I’m asked most often is, ‘How much time should we set aside for photos?’ I find myself educating couples on how photography fits into the overall flow of the day. Helping them understand the importance of good lighting, building in time for portraits without feeling rushed, and ensuring they can be fully present while still having every special moment documented. Creating a photography friendly timeline is one of the most valuable ways I can set my couples up for a stress free, beautiful wedding day.

What are some trends you’ve seen in weddings recently that you’ve loved?
I’ve been loving the shift toward more intentional, personal wedding designs. Think intimate guest lists, statement floral installations, and custom invitation suites. One trend I’m especially inspired by is the use of flowing drapes in both ceremony and reception spaces. Whether framing an altar, softening a tent ceiling, adding texture behind the head table, or a portrait backdrop. Draping brings a romantic, elevated feel that photographs beautifully. I’m also seeing couples embrace unique reception lighting. From candlelit dinners to twinkle light canopies. My favorite; film photography is making a big comeback(not that it ever left, couples are requesting it more), bringing timeless, nostalgic tones to the final gallery.

Do you have any unique tips for couples when choosing their vendors?
My biggest tip is to choose vendors whose work you genuinely love, but also whose personality you connect with. Your wedding day team will be with you through some of your most intimate and emotional moments, so trust and comfort are just as important as talent. Look for vendors who listen to your vision, communicate clearly, and have a proven track record of working seamlessly with other professionals. Because when your vendor team works well together, the entire day flows effortlessly.

When it comes to food, what’s your guilty pleasure?

Hands down chocolate covered gummy bears. I could eat them every day and never get tired of them. There’s just something about that chewy, fruity center wrapped in smooth chocolate that makes me instantly happy. If I see them, I’m buying them… and yes, I fully believe they should count as a love language.

What’s a fun or unusual fact about yourself?

I love dancing. Whether it’s in the kitchen with my kids, at a friend’s wedding, or during an epic reception dance floor moment. If the music’s good, I’m out there!

Do you have any pets?
Yes! I have a sweet Bernedoodle named Charlie. Yes, she’s a girl, even though her name might make you guess otherwise. She’s the fluffiest, friendliest shadow you could ask for, and she’s been right by my side through it all… including both home births of my daughters.

How do you de-stress?
Massages are my ultimate form of self-care. An hour of quiet, relaxation, and no to-do list is exactly what I need to recharge.

What’s been your favorite ‘first-dance’ song recently?

One of my favorite first-dance songs recently has been ‘You Are the Best Thing’ by Ray LaMontagne. It’s soulful, joyful, and has that timeless quality that makes it feel perfect for a wedding.

What are you reading right now? Or what’s your favorite movie?
I’m a huge romcom fan, and no one beats Adam Sandler in my book. My all time favorite movie is 50 First Dates. It’s sweet, funny, and one I can watch over and over again.

Anything else you want our followers to know?
One of my favorite details of any wedding day is the florals. I’m endlessly inspired by the colors, textures, and artistry they bring to a celebration. I love them so much that I’ve started my own little flower garden at home, and I can’t wait to see it grow.
