Alexis and Antonio
June 26, 2022
Alexis and Antonio first met in their freshman year of college. One day, during an on-campus fashion show, while Alexis modeled on stage, Antonio sat in the crowd, instantly captivated and enamored by her amazing moves and short-styled haircut. It was at that moment that he turned to his friend, and told him he was going to make Alexis his. Some time passed before their paths crossed again. Alexis needed a logo designed for an organization she was in and, luckily, another committee member knew just the person for the job, leading to their first meeting. The last star wasn’t aligned for their love story to truly begin, and they only discussed business.
Fast forward to the summer of 2015. Antonio and his friend were hanging out at White Oak Mall back in Richmond, VA. While there, they happened to run into Alexis entering Five Below. Antonio, seizing his chance and not willing to miss yet another opportunity, asked her out to the movies. Thinking fast, Antonio said that their mutual friend would be there so that Alexis would agree and make it their first official date. Alexis agreed, thinking that it would be the three of them, and was surprised when it turned out to be just her and Antonio. His plan had worked, but Alexis’s heart wouldn’t be won so easily. It took six months of playing hard to get but Alexis came around, just when Antonio gave up—and it has been lovely ever since!
Antonio devised an elaborate plan. He told Alexis they were going to a jazz festival at Brown’s Island, all the while contacting Alexis’s family and friends and preparing his proposal. To make the event appear real, he used his design skills to create fake flyers and even told one of her friends to mention that they were going, too. The day before the proposal, Antonio went to Brown’s Island to map everything out and set up, only to realize there was a real musical event scheduled on the day he was going to propose! The day before, he quickly rearranged all of his carefully laid plans to ensure everything went off without a hitch. With a lot of sweat, stress, and almost tears he pulled everything together.
On the day of, Antonio and Alexis walked down to the park to the faux music festival where instead of festival-goers, there were family and friends appearing from around a corner holding up balloons spelling out: “Say Yes”. The moment Alexis read the balloon message and registered what was happening, Antonio went down on one knee to pop the question. There was only one answer to give, a resounding YES!
Alexis and Antonio wanted to give their big day a ‘wow factor’ by having a Sunday brunch wedding. Having breakfast instead of dinner is the less traditional route, but they LOVED it! Brunch food items were served and the champagne toast was swapped for mimosas! The traditional wedding components were there, they just added a unique twist. The happy couple’s day was truly a labor of love since they DIY’d most of the decor items, they saw it as an extra bonding activity that gives their event a more personal touch. They are now working in Maryland and in the process of purchasing their first home!
