How it Began
Riley and Taylor first met performing at the Coalition Theater in Richmond, their paths often crossing in the local comedy scene. They started as friends, sharing post-show laughs at Saison Market, until the timing finally clicked, and a first date in Carytown set everything in motion. The connection was instant—one house, a dog, and a cat later, Taylor knew it was time to propose. On a trip to the United States Botanic Garden on April 1, 2023, he just couldn’t wait any longer and popped the question right away.
The Personal Touches
Riley’s artistic touch was woven throughout the wedding—she designed many of the printed details herself, a perfect nod to her background as an art teacher and VCU Painting & Printmaking grad. The VMFA, a place filled with childhood memories, made for a sentimental setting. The florals were a labor of love, arranged by Taylor’s mom, Leslie, alongside dear family friends. Even the wedding signage was a family effort, crafted by Riley’s cousin, Daniel. Every detail had heart, making the day feel even more special.
The Wedding Day
Riley was most excited to dance—especially after lessons with her professional ballroom-dancing grandparents, Bobby and Judy. But when the big moment came, Taylor forgot everything! The night took an unexpected turn when the fire alarm interrupted dinner, leading to an impromptu second cocktail hour outside. Guests grabbed drinks, the DJ brought the party, and firefighters arrived—making for some unforgettable photos.
Advice from the couple
“Find a way to make this daunting group project as fun as possible. We often went to the VMFA for Jazz Nights or picnics on the lawn to count down the months leading up to the wedding. A lot of people will have input, but we wanted people to feel it reflected our personalities and to remember this wedding as not just a nice wedding, but as Riley and Taylor’s day.”
