Meet… Amanda Perry, Owner of Amanda Perry LLC! She’s the go-to girl for all of your cosmetology needs! Today we’re getting to know the boss behind the company and learn some MUST-HAVE wedding tips along the way.
If you care to share, how did you get to where you are now – what drew you to the wedding industry? This is actually my second career! I have a bachelors degree in Criminal Justice and Spanish but I started doing wedding hair and makeup as a hobby on the side on the weekends in 2007. My boyfriend at the time ( who is now my husband!) encouraged me to follow what seemed to make me the happiest which was hair! I left my full time job in 2010, enrolled myself in Cosmetology school and have never looked back!!
What’s your favorite thing about working in the wedding industry? I love that our part of the wedding day allows me and my team to travel to the coolest venues all over Richmond and the surrounding areas. Our “office” is never the same and its so fun!!
What’s a unique tip you tell your couples? Build in some extra time that morning for relaxation / cushion time. The men always get to relax but for us ladies, sometimes your extra buffer time in the hair and makeup schedule is the only time you have to chill! If your artist recommends starting a little earlier than you wanted, DO IT! Trust me, you’ll be thrilled to have some down time before getting dressed if you are able to!

What’s your best piece of advice for couples planning a wedding? Don’t rush it! Enjoy the process! Being engaged was one of my favorite times and its so short lived in the grand scheme! Soak in all the date nights, ask each other for input on how you see the day going, and really connect on making your day perfect as YOU see it!
What advice would you give to someone just starting their own business? I’d say find a mentor or someone you can call on to ask the questions about getting started. I LOVE to help new hair and makeup artists learn the ropes, gain their confidence, and build their skill. You’d be surprised how many veterans are willing to cheer on and guide the next generation so don’t be afraid to reach out to someone and ask them for coffee or lunch to pick their brain!
How do you de-stress? Traveling! I love to work hard, and play harder! I am currently in a Disney phase of my life and we go down to Orlando as often as we can to soak up the sun and the magic!!
What is the last book you read, or movie you watched? Cool Runnings haha! My son is 7 and my husband and I are working through some of the “oldies but goodies” with him!

What’s a fun or unusual fact about you? I am a gastric patient!! Struggling with my weight my entire life led me to have gastric sleeve surgery in 2021 and I have never looked back. Down 100 pounds since then and I just have SO much energy now on wedding days and feel like I could take on the world now that Im healthier! Those who know me now always are shocked when I tell them!
Do you love to travel? If so, what are some must-see destinations or where to next? YESSS! Next up for me is Disney again 😉 I can’t stay away!
Anything else you want our followers to know? With a large team of 16 stylists, we are perfect for those larger wedding parties!!
