How They Met
Maurice and Shelisa (aka Sheli) met in 2001 at All Saints Catholic School. Maurice was beginning his 8th grade year. Sheli, new to the school, was beginning her 7th grade year. According to Maurice, he noticed Sheli the first day of school and said to a friend “that’s going to be my girl.” Later, a classmate assisted Maurice and Sheli with exchanging phone numbers. The two remained friends long after attendance at All Saints. In 2018, a Facebook message from Maurice rekindled a childhood crush. The two began dating and Maurice proposed to Sheli August 1, 2020 at the school where they first met.
The Decor
Sheli described their wedding decor as classic, traditional, with a touch of modern. Maurice’s favorite color is blue and Sheli’s favorite flower is hydrangea. From there, they chose a navy and dusty blue color scheme with accent colors ivory and gold. While wedding planning, they were inspired to implement marble into the overall design. The couple added marble picture frames of loved ones who were not able to attend, marble inspired cake tier, and agate wedding favors.
The wedding ceremony took place at the upper rotunda of The Dominion Club. The bridal party stood on the stairs and wedding guests surrounded the couple in their seats, giving an intimate feel for their nuptials.
Memorable Mentions
Maurice’s favorite part of the day was the ceremony. He explained it was because of the anticipation of seeing Sheli and the exchange of vows. Sheli’s favorite part of the day was dancing with all of their guests. She never dances in public, but she was so excited about their marriage and being surrounded by loved ones, that she just had to dance.
