How they met
Becca and Malcolm had their first date on May 17, 2016. The couple said “It all started with both of us hopelessly searching for love the old-fashioned way, on smartphone dating apps.” The two matched on Bumble and have been together ever since.
The proposal
After a few years of dating, Malcolm bought a ring and the engagement planning commenced. He surprised Becca on a walk across the T. Tyler Potterfield Bridge on their way to Legend Brewing to meetup with friends. The two recall, “Finally, Malcolm stopped at the last alcove on the bridge and acted like he was reading a plaque. Becca, having no interest, continued taking pictures. By the tie she turned around, Malcolm professed his love, got down on a knee and popped the question. Becca’s immediate response was “Is this a joke? Is this really happening?!” They both blacked out after that, but apparently she said yes, and they proceeded across the bridge to meet up with eagerly awaiting friends.”
The big day
When asked to tell us about the wedding day, the couples says, “In a word…perfect. We were able to make it seem like the craziness of our times was not going on during those few hours. The weather was perfect. It didn’t rain, and it wasn’t too hot.” Bagpipes played Becca down the aisle before their short and sweet outdoor ceremony. Becca tells us “I came down the aisle to a tearful Malcolm and in true Becca fashion, got my veil caught and almost fell. Malcolm made an outfit change between the ceremony and reception, and we were able to make a grand entrance down the stairwell into the main hall. The dances were perfect, the speeches were heartfelt and brought out some tears, and then we partied into the night to the band that we thankfully decided to keep even with our smaller numbers.”
The WOW factor
“The band! We just wanted a party, even if it was a guest list one-fifth of its original size. We wanted this to be an escape from the chaos of the world around us.”
Favorite parts of the day
Becca: When he surprised me with our first dance song after making it seem like we would be dancing to another song that didn’t mean as much to us as a couple.
Malcolm: When we sang with the band and somebody actually got me singing on video.
What was the biggest challenge you faced in planning your wedding?
“COVID-19. Having to start from scratch and having to pair down the guest list.”
What is your best piece of advice for couples reading this?
“Enjoy it! Remember today is about you not about everyone else. Don’t stress the small or big stuff it’ll all work out in the end.”
