Liz + Joselito
November 9, 2019

How they met:
Liz and Joselito were set up by mutual friends in November 2015 and have been together ever since!

The proposal:
The proposal was as organic as their relationship from the very beginning. They both knew they would be together forever and went to pick out the rings as a couple. The two shared the news with their families a couple of weeks later over brunch.

The wedding:
Their blended gender wedding party and unicorn flower girls was the “Celebration of Love” they were going for. Although they were legally married in their back yard with only 30 attendees a few days before the reception, their bigger celebration included all the traditions such as writing their own vows and lots of music.

The details:
The accidental theme turned out to be champagne, burgundy and sparkles. The cake was white wine and champagne flavored with wineberries in the middle. “I knew I wanted it to feel twinkly, cozy, and lounge-like so bringing in soft lighting was key. For the food, we wanted a variety of items that were simple but elegant. Carving stations, salad bars, macaroons, I honestly don’t remember it all – but the ring bearer loved the bacon wrapped scallops! The bouquets tied the color palette together. Vogue flowers did an amazing job!”

The sweet couple kept everything else as organic as their relationship. There was no seating chart. Just a welcome sign with a eucalyptus spray and a table for the cake. There was a special board with photos of loved ones who couldn’t be present which was very important to them.

The WOW factor:
“Our wow factor was the exchange of vows over the Richmond skyline at sunset. I think we succeeded!”

Favorite part of the day:
“Right after the ceremony, we asked the wedding party to meet us in the bridal suite for a toast. I cried like a baby and felt surrounded by so much love while we were thanking everyone for being a part of the day. One of our favorite memories was watching the groom’s 5-year-old daughter spinning in circles taking in the love while on the dance floor. She seemed so free and joyful in that moment, and I loved getting to witness it.”

What is your best piece of advice for couples reading this?
“Plan the wedding that is right for you. If you’re doing this yourself, it’s very stressful – but ultimately, making the decisions that are right for you to make it all worthwhile in the end. Also, marry the person that you want to wake up to every day and feel grateful they are in your life. We aren’t a traditional couple, we didn’t get engaged in a traditional way – but everything made sense for us. Anything I could have changed about that day doesn’t matter, because I got to marry my best friend.”
