Grace and Kenneth at John Marshall Ballrooms

Kenneth and Grace Wedding

April 27, 2024

How They Met
Grace, a math student at Tulane University, and Kenneth, just beginning his career after graduating from architecture school, crossed paths in the vibrant city of New Orleans. Grace, originally from the small town of New Iberia, Louisiana (home of Tabasco!), and Kenneth, from the busy streets of Arlington, Virginia, quickly hit it off. Their connection grew stronger, and eventually, Grace moved to Virginia after finishing grad school. A beautiful chapter of their love story began in New Orleans and blossomed across state lines.

The Proposal

Kenneth proposed to Grace in the most meaningful place—at his family’s centuries-old cemetery in Campbell County, VA, beneath a grand oak tree. It was a quiet, intimate moment, surrounded by history and nature. As they stood there, with the legacy of generations before them, Kenneth got down on one knee, marking the beginning of their forever.

The Venue

From the moment they toured the beautifully restored John Marshall, they knew it was the perfect place for their reception. Kenneth’s family had long attended many events there, and adding their own celebration to the rich history felt incredibly special. They also married at St. John’s Church in Church Hill, the same place where Kenneth’s parents had tied the knot. Signing the registry and seeing their names alongside his parents’ was a touching, unforgettable moment.

The Favorite Moment

A favorite moment was the pre-ceremony photos at the State Capitol. The first look at the west entrance, followed by pictures in front of Houdon’s statue of George Washington in the Rotunda, was unforgettable. To make it even more special, their live painter captured this beautiful moment for them!

Advice for Couples

Organization and timeliness are your best friends. We got to have the wedding of our dreams because we made informed but timely decisions early in the process to get the big pieces locked down. A lot of our vendors seemed very thankful that we knew what we wanted and gave clear direction on time! We are not ones to wait to the last minute on anything and that paid off big time for our wedding.
