The John Marshall Ballrooms were an excellent choice for our wedding! Both ballrooms and the lobby are beautiful and the pictures have turned out amazingly well. Amy Loving is a pleasure to work with. She was very responsive to all questions and concerns and made sure the tour, tasting, rehearsal and wedding/reception went off without a problem. All of the staff - from the concierge to wait staff and bartenders - are excellent. The food is great as well - we got so many compliments on the meal. I am so happy we chose to have our wedding at the John Marshall.
Everything was perfect!
Everything was perfect! The venue was not only beautiful but the staff working that night were impeccable. Super friendly and efficient. For the price, the food and drink were amazing! The space for the bridal suite was huge and gave us plenty of space for hair and makeup to be separate from food and dresses. They also have a guest suite you can rent to stay the night before, which we did and it was 2 bedrooms so we easily were able to get ready in before going up. You can also keep your belongings in the bridal suite till the next day! Great venue overall!
Beautiful, exquisite, and better than we ever could have expected!
Our wedding at The John Marshall Ballrooms was beautiful, exquisite, and better than we ever could have expected.
The venue itself is right in the heart of Richmond. It has all the grandeur reflecting its impressive history, yet it doesn't feel "dated" - the space is both elegant and classy. The natural light in the smaller ballroom made our ceremony incredibly beautiful and accentuated the arch we built. The lobby area was perfect for our cocktail hour; it was grand yet comfortable for our guests to mingle and unwind before the reception. Our reception of over 100 fit comfortably in the Virginia Ballroom, but we easily could have fit in more. The tables and chairs were perfectly simple, allowing us to make our own centerpieces and not worry too much about coordinating with the existing decor.
The food was wonderful. Our guests couldn't stop raving about how delicious it was! We had 2 guests with an extensive list of allergies, and it was no problem for the caterer to make them separate plates even though we had a buffet set up. My husband and I had excellent wait service for the entire event, so we didn't need to worry about getting food with everything else going on. It was also easy to have vegetarian and glueten free options for our guests with those dietary restrictions.
Probably the most wonderful part of our event was being able to work with the event coordinator at the John Marshall Ballrooms, Amy Loving. She was incredibly accommodating of various specific requests we had. She also helped us by providing recommendations where we were stuck and not quite sure what to do. We didn't have a wedding planner, and it turns out we didn't need one given how great Amy was! We also need to point out, as a same-sex couple, you never know how people are going to be. Amy never batted an eye and was there for us the whole time to make our event special. Amy's recommendations turned out great - not only did we have an unforgettable experience, but our guests from Richmond, New York and Canada of all ages kept telling us how this was the best or one of the best weddings that they've ever attended! We can't thank you enough!

Amy Lovings and the entire staff at The John Marshall Ballrooms/Homemades by Suzanne made our wedding day one we will never forget. The space was beautiful and functional, the food was delicious, and the team was extremely accommodating. We used the Virginia and Marshall Ballroom, The Club Room, The Bridal Suite, and The Guest Suite. Each one was perfect for what we needed them for. The space was great for our 220 person wedding. It didn't feel too tight but it didn't feel empty either. The food was all delicious and we continue to receive compliments about it. The location is central to many hotels in the area making it simple for guest to get to and from the venue. I was hesitant about using a ballroom because I liked more of a unique look but with the number of people we were expecting, it was difficult to find a space big enough for us. When I went to tour the JM Ballrooms, I was taken back by how beautiful the space is. It is bright, with a vintage feel. The space is so beautiful that it does not require too many extra decorations. The marble stairs leading into the lobby is beautiful. This space is worth checking out to see if it would work for your wedding. I would recommend it to anyone looking for an all-inclusive wedding feeling with an amazing staff!
