Emily & Cam
How did you two meet?
In a post-COVID-19 dating world, we actually met on Hinge. I had sworn I’d never do long-distance, but the algorithm had other plans and matched me with Cam, who was living in Virginia Beach at the time. After nearly a year of weekend visits back and forth, a new career opportunity brought me to Richmond. Just like that, we went from hours apart to only 10 minutes away.

Cam proposed on the second evening of our annual family beach vacation in Nags Head, NC. What I didn’t know was that he had been secretly working with my family and best friend behind the scenes, planning every detail and even collaborating on the ring. While we were waiting for our (nearly two-hour!) dinner reservation, we hung out by the pier gazebo enjoying music and drinks. Cam pulled me aside and said, “I know we haven’t been able to go on many adventures this year, but are you ready for an even bigger adventure?” Then he got down on one knee. It was perfect, sweet, intimate, and so us.

Tell us about the ring. Did you pick it out?
A couple of years ago on one of our trips, I showed Cam exactly what I liked, so he already had a good idea. He and my mom worked together to incorporate my great-grandmother’s diamond into the design. The ring was custom-made by Lustre Fine Jewelry & Repairs.

Any words of wisdom or planning advice for our other engaged followers?
If you have a specific time of year or dream venue in mind, start early. I assumed we’d have plenty of time after getting engaged, but when I casually started reaching out to venues, I was shocked to see that fall 2026 dates were already booking up. If your plans are more flexible, you can take your time, but if you’re set on something in particular, don’t wait.
