How did you two meet?
We met on a kickball team! Mutual friends invited us to join the team in the spring of 2023. If we’re being honest, kickball is neither of our strong suits. But John was always having a good time and making everyone laugh, and I couldn’t get enough!
How did he pop the question?
John proposed on May 25, 2025. We were at his family’s beach house in Indian Beach, North Carolina, for Memorial Day weekend. The proposal could not have been more perfect. The weather that day was spotty. Afternoon clouds rolled in and it began to rain, so we were stuck inside. But just before our dinner reservation at our favorite restaurant, the sun came out. John suggested we have a glass of wine out on the sundeck before heading to dinner. I thought nothing of it. I assumed he just wanted to enjoy the warm weather.
But as we were walking down the beach path toward the sundeck, he said, ‘Let’s just go down to the beach.’ I thought there was no way we had enough time to walk along the beach and still make it to dinner, but I agreed. We walked maybe 10 feet down the beach when John got down on one knee and asked me to be his wife. It was the best moment of my life.
After we soaked up the moment, we ran back up to the beach house, where his mom, dad, sweet Grannie, and our dog, Bella, were waiting for us on the upper porch and cheering us on. We celebrated together as they welcomed me to the family. And if you’re wondering, we did in fact make it to dinner. (John had expertly planned our reservation for later than he told me.) We had a cozy table at The Island Grille, our favorite local spot, where the celebrations continued.
What is your engagement ring like?
The ring is my dream. It is a simple, timeless round solitaire on a gold band, designed by Emily Warden, one of my favorite jewelry stores.
What are you looking forward to most about wedding planning?
I’m currently in the thick of wedding planning, but I think I’ve been most excited about picking out my dress and the florals. I cannot wait to see my vision come together in June!
