How They Met
While Johnny and Velvet were attending separate conferences at the same hotel in Maryland, a mutual friend hosted a reception where the two met. They started dating two months later.
How He Asked
Johnny asked Velvet to attend a board meeting in New Orleans with him. At dinner one evening, he proposed. Immediately after, a quartet singing “Sweet Valentine” serenaded them.
The Perfect Place
Johnny is a University of Richmond alumni (and Spiders basketball star!) and long-time Richmond resident, so it was only fitting to have their ceremony at the Cannon Memorial Chapel.
Decor Details
Johnny and Velvet took over their reception space! Velvet’s affinity for soft, cranberry red inspired their Autumnal Elegance theme. The couple incorporated chocolate brown, antique gold and their own wedding logo to increase the elegance factor. They had a formal reception room, dancing room, cocktail room complete with a photo booth and ice sculpture, and finally, a lounge room decorated with white sofas and pillows featuring their logo.
The Best Part
Johnny and Velvet truly enjoyed spending time with family and friends they rarely see, so they turned their wedding into a full weekend affair. Velvet says, “The entire weekend was full of joy and laughter.”
