Think outside the chocolate box! Because of the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, this Valentine’s Day probably won’t be the usual rushed dinner for two in a crowded restaurant. Instead of the usual hustle and bustle, have a romantic meal at home. Really try to make it special. Here are some tips:

  1. Play soft background music
  2. Skip the grocery store flowers and order an arrangement from your favorite local florist (They will last longer, and you will be supporting a local business.)
  3. Have your meal catered, hire a private chef, or get a to-go order from your favorite restaurant
  4. Take your table setting to the next level using a local party rental company

Set a table for you and yours—elegant linens, beautiful china, sparkling stemware, gorgeous flatware. Don’t have them? Rent them. It’s hassle free and super affordable. You don’t want to eat a special meal off of disposables, do you? Your local party rental businesses will thank you, and you won’t have to wash the dishes after! Plus, it’s just a little something extra that makes it different than your normal routine.

Valentine’s Day doesn’t need to leave you seeing red. Some great non-traditional color combos for this love-filled holiday are hot oink & gold; ivory & grey; aqua & gold; lavender & silver; magenta & aqua; or purple & bronze. These are just a few suggestions. You do you. Pick colors you love and that will incorporate beautifully into your home.

If you have a formal dining room, use it for this meal. If you don’t have one, consider popping up a small round table in your most formal room to add to the ambiance. Dim the lights and light candles. (Unscented ones at the table. You’ll thank me later for this tip.)

One final suggestion: If you’ve never set a formal table before, do a little research. Make sure everything is in the proper place. Not only is it logical when it comes to using the utensils, plates, and glassware, it is visually balanced and pleasing to the eye.
