Introducing the Richmond Weddings Team – Scott Brunette
We’re doing something a little different this week! Instead of introducing you to one of our vendors, we thought it was time to introduce you to members of OUR team! First up is Scott, the co-owner of Richmond Weddings!
Tell us a little about the company!
Richmond Weddings, formerly The Wedding Guide, was started by my mother-in-law, Mickie Bowman, over 26 years ago. We bring engaged couples and vendors together to plan the best wedding imaginable through our website, magazine and shows.
How did you get started in this business?
Mickie came to our engagement party in March 2005. She was looking to retire but wanted the company (her fifth child) to continue and preferred that it remain in the family. She asked Amye and I if we were interested in buying the business. That meant moving from Los Angeles to Richmond (home for Amye). We both come from families who are entrepreneurs and small business owners and thought this was too good and exciting an opportunity to pass up. We just celebrated 11 years in Richmond!
What’s your favorite wedding story?
Ours of course. The condensed version. A mutual friend of ours wanted to set Amye and me up. We had never met each other. I was ok with it, but apparently Amye was not. A few months later, this same friend invited some of us to a Christmas party. Amye and I met and began talking. The next day our friend asked what I thought of Amye. I told him she was super cool and I had a great time. He then let me know that she was the one he wanted to introduce me to. We’ve been together ever since.
Why do you like working with weddings?
We don’t work with weddings. But one of the best parts of doing this is seeing the smiles on all the brides when they attend our shows. They are so excited to be there and that motivates us to give them and our vendors the best experience possible.
Hire a wedding planner! Even if it is just a day-of coordinator. He or she will save you money, time and stress. It is so worth it!
How far in advance should couples book your services?
As quickly as possible! Go to our website and read our magazine the second you get engaged. Then buy tickets to the show.
What inspired you the most / where do you find inspiration?
From family, of course. Amye and our two sons always keep me on my toes and wanting to do better. It is also humbling to hear from our extended family, our clients, how we have played a role in growing their businesses.
Golf, golf, golf. I have also begun running again which I am happy about. Time with family and friends is priceless although I don’t mind some quiet time to read or do crossword puzzles.
I was born and raised in Los Angeles. More importantly, I am a huge fan of the 80s…music…TV…movies. To a fault.
