We recently took a trip to The Omni Homestead. This destination wedding resort venue is nestled in the picturesque Allegheny Mountains in the historic town of Hot Springs, Virginia. Just an easy 2.5-hour drive from Richmond, our two-night, three-day stay was one for the memory books. This 250-year-old gem recently underwent a $140 million renovation. Yes, you read that right. And believe us, no detail went unnoticed – from the meeting rooms to guest rooms, to each bit of thoughtful décor. Every element of the renovation restored the historic character that this place is known for.
As we turned onto Sam Snead Highway and rounded a curve, the grand, impressive building with meticulous grounds came into view against the backdrop of the mountains. As soon as we pulled up to the valet, we were greeted with a warm welcome. The staff’s genuine friendliness was clear from the very beginning, giving us a great first impression and setting the tone for the outstanding service we enjoyed throughout our stay.
Entering the resort doors, you are immediately in the Great Hall. The space is breathtaking with high intricate ceilings held up by magnificent columns offering a grandeur that was hard to ignore. We paused for a moment to take it all in.
We arrived a little early for check-in, so we took some time to relax in one of the many seating areas offered in the Great Hall with a glass of wine. Upon check-in, we were greeted with yet another thoughtful touch—a glass of champagne.
The room itself was spacious and luxurious with a large bathroom. The view from the window was equally impressive, looking out over the front of the property and offering a glimpse of the manicured gardens and surrounding landscape.
Our first evening unfolded much like a classic rehearsal dinner or wedding welcome party, featuring a delightful meal, live music, and well-crafted cocktails. After dinner, we moved to the intimate yet spacious covered front porch by the fire tables with more live music. The homemade s’mores were a nostalgic treat, adding a sweet note to the end of an ideal day.
The next morning, Scott headed to The Cascades, one of the best mountain courses in the U.S. and frequently ranked #1 by Golfweek in their “Best Golf Courses You Can Play in Each State” list. This award-winning championship golf course at the foothills of the mountain offers generous slopes, streams, and beautiful scenery. Your golf enthusiast guests will thank you for the opportunity.
While Scott was enjoying a day of golf, I started my day with breakfast in the Crystal Ballroom before heading to the theater for a presentation on the property by John Hess, Director of Sales and Marketing. His knowledge and passion for The Omni Homestead were evident, and it made the guided tour of the event spaces even more enjoyable. From the elegant indoor ballrooms to the spectacular outdoor venues, each space had its own unique charm and was thoughtfully designed to create unforgettable events.
The evening’s activities took us to the newest event space located on top of a hill overlooking the entire property. We were shuttled there for a cocktail hour while the sun was setting, followed by an exquisite four-course dinner and live music. The food was outstanding; each dish expertly prepared and beautifully presented. At dark, we were treated to an impressive fireworks display that lit up the night sky. The evening concluded back in the main property in a private space behind the bar, which had a speakeasy vibe with its cozy, intimate setting. We sipped on our nightcaps and indulged in an assortment of decadent desserts—a perfect end to a perfect day.
On the morning of day three before heading home, we took a shuttle to the Warm Springs Pools Bathhouse. This natural spring, noted as the first spa structure in America, offers soothing mineral waters inside a spectacularly designed octagonal building with an open roof. We left the natural springs feeling very refreshed and relaxed. We believe this should be on everyone’s to-do list after a late-night welcome party and before starting your wedding day. It’s a great place to rejuvenate and clear your head before saying, “I do”.
On their sprawling 2,300-acre estate, The Omni Homestead offers 12 distinct venue options, each catering to a wide range of wedding styles. Whether you’re envisioning a quaint elopement or a grand, lavish celebration, these exquisite spaces provide the perfect backdrop. Truly a destination wedding location, The Omni Homestead promises an unforgettable experience tailored to your every desire.
There is also no shortage of resort activities to keep you and your guests entertained. From an intimate spa treatment to a hike through the gorge, there is something for everyone at any age. A family pool and a separate one for only adults can be enjoyed year-round. Other resort activities include fly fishing, archery & axe throwing, falconry, kayaking and so much more. A full listing can be found on their website.
Although we went in the spring, this is a destination resort that is perfect no matter the season. The Omni Homestead exceeded our expectations in every way, from the impeccable service to the stunning surroundings. We left with a renewed sense of peace and serenity, already looking forward to our next visit.
