Real Richmond Wedding | Amanda + Jared’s Intimate Garden Affair
Amanda and Jared
June 28, 2019
How They Met
Amanda and Jared met in 2009 while they were both studying marine biology at the University of North Carolina at Wilmington. The two blossomed their friendship through regular study dates during their last two years of school. They went their separate ways after graduation but reconnected a few years later and fell in love!
Jared proposed 9 years later in 2018. He and Amanda traveled to Myrtle Beach and took a quick detour to their alma mater since they were so close. During a walk around the campus, Jared stopped at their favorite fountain and pulled out a stunning ring. He expressed his love to her and popped the question, to which she, of course, responded, “Yes!”
Amanda explains, “It was the sweetest moment and the best place. It was where we met, where our best memories are, and where both our hearts will forever be.”
Lewis Ginter Botanical Gardens has always been one of their favorite places to visit, so when they had to choose the venue for their wedding it was their first and only thought!
When it came to decorating they really wanted the garden to speak for itself, but also incorporate pieces that represented them as a couple. Their colors were their college colors, blue and teal, and Amanda’s favorite color, orange! These colors were sprinkled throughout their floral arrangements from Vogue Flowers that so perfectly complemented the full-bloomed flowers in the garden.
The décor was directly inspired by their mutual love of marine biology and traveling. Each table number was created by Amanda herself, adorned with a plant-themed font, a sea turtle, and an owl (their two favorite animals)! Instead of a traditional guest book, they decided to have a world map that guests could mark and suggest travel locations for the couple.
They knew they wanted their ceremony to be short, sweet, and personal. A close friend of Jared’s officiated the wedding and they decided against having any bridesmaids or groomsmen, so it was just the two of them at the end of the aisle. For their vows, they pieced together different things from the internet that felt fitting to them as a couple.
The food following the ceremony was delicious. The cocktail hour had yummy asiago potatoes and sweet potato biscuits with ham. For the main course, they had everything from chicken and steak to Amanda’s favorite food, mac and cheese!
Favorite Part of the Day
“Jared and I both have the same favorite part, which was our first look. We had decided at the last minute to have our first look, and it was definitely one of the best decisions we made. Having that first look gave us a private moment to see each other before the chaos ensued. Everything else in the night was so rushed, I barely remember all the details. But that moment when I walked up behind him, he turned around, and we were able to be together alone, was without a doubt our favorite part of the day.”
“Making decisions, there are so many good choices out there to choose from. Also, trying to limit spending. I wanted to keep buying everything!”
Best Piece of Advice
“Time goes by very quickly on your wedding day. Allow more time than you think you will need to visit with all your guests. Enjoy as much of it as you can!”
