Real Richmond Wedding | Cara + Will’s Industrial Museum Wedding
Cara and Will
September 22, 2018
How They Met
Cara and will first met in 2014 through a mutual friend while Cara was bartending downtown. It wasn’t until September of 2015 that Will asked Cara out. Cara explains, “I agreed to go, but I told him I wasn’t looking for anything serious…We ended up going to Blue Goat for dinner, and I instantly fell head over heels for him.” From that night on the two were inseparable.
The Proposal
Will popped the question to Cara on September 16th, 2017, on their anniversary. After dinner they decided to walk the few blocks back to their house, just as the sun was starting to set. “When we got closer to our house, I realized there were candles, string lights, and tons of roses sitting up at the top of our steps on our front porch.” As they climbed the stairs, Cara was still completely oblivious to what was happening. And when Will grabbed Cara’s hand and got down on one knee, she was absolutely shocked. “He didn’t have a chance to say anything because I immediately started crying and couldn’t even find the words to speak.” To top it all off, Will had hired a photographer to hide in the bushes and capture their entire proposal on camera. “The look of shock on my face in those pictures is priceless.”
The Details
Cara and Will chose the Science Museum of Virginia because they wanted to get married in Richmond, but somewhere different than a usual venue. With the help of their planner, Tatianna with Simply Charmed Weddings and Events, they made their dream come true.
For their ceremony, they wanted it to be short and sweet. With one of Will’s family members as the officiant, they covered all the meaningful things, but was also quick and to the point. They said their “I do’s” outside between the train tracks at the Science Museum.
For their decor, Cara really wanted it to be unique. “I wanted it to go with the rustic/industrial feel of the train station itself, but I also wanted each table to be different.” With the help of an interior design friend, they put together an eclectic vibe that seamlessly came together. Their colors were blush, navy, and charcoal. “Will always said he wanted navy suits, and I loved the blush dresses with the navy!” The charcoal helped bring in the interior and give it a more rustic feel. “For our table centerpieces, I just wanted a few tables with tall vases and large bundles of eucalyptus.”
MOSAIC Catering + Events handled all of the food and drinks at their September celebration, and Cara still has people telling her how good the food was! When asked which part of their wedding they wanted to “WOW” their guests with, Cara said, “We just wanted to make sure our guests had fun! Because of this, we decided to do the buffet-style food and not have assigned seats for dinner. We wanted our wedding to have a more laid back feel, and let people do what they wanted!”
Favorite Part of the Day
Cara’s favorite part of the day was the moment she turned and started to walk down the aisle. “Seeing my husband waiting for me and the look on his face was a moment I will never forget.” Will agrees that this was his favorite part of the day too. “We were both so nervous in the moments leading up to this, but it was such an amazing feeling when we both saw each other for the first time walking down the aisle.”
Biggest Challenge
“I think my biggest challenge was that I am so laid back. My poor wedding planner and photographer would ask me my preference on certain things, and I would always respond with ‘it doesn’t matter to me!’ At one point, my wedding planner finally told me that she really appreciated me being so laid back and not letting things bother me, but at some point I would have to make a decision about some things!”
Best Piece of Advice
“Relax and enjoy the day. It goes by fast, and no one will notice the little things that don’t go completely as planned. Try and take a few moments to just take everything in with your new husband/wife, because you will both be pulled in different directions all night!”
