Real Richmond Wedding: Lauren and Daniel’s Spring Museum Wedding
Lauren and Daniel
April 28, 2018
How They Met
Daniel and Lauren first met in 2004, all the way back in high school. Daniel played on the boy’s soccer team with Lauren’s older brother. But, Lauren was always too shy to talk to Daniel, him being an older boy and all. It wasn’t until they both ended up at Virginia Tech that their romance really began. Lauren says, “Our first official date together was a Halloween party, where I was a ladybug and Daniel was a ninja.” The two partied the night away and have been cheering on the Hokies together ever since!
One night, after a long day of work, Lauren came home to a note on the door that Daniel was going to be late getting home. But, “I turned the corner and found a candle-lit table with my engagement ring. Daniel was dressed up and got down on one knee with our song playing in the background. Lauren said yes and, “the rest is history.”
These two Virginia Tech grads wanted a classic venue that showcased the history of Richmond while still being conveniently located within the city. “I also loved having both indoor and outdoor spaces that were beautiful, so there was an easy back-up in case of rain.” Luckily for them, their April Saturday turned out to be the perfect day. “The dogwoods were in full bloom and it was absolutely stunning!”
For their theme, they decided to focus on highlighting the incredible space of their venue. “We kept the decor pretty simple and classic with lots of candlelight, flowers, and soft seating to show off the high ceilings.” They wanted to showcase how beautiful Richmond is in the spring, tying in the full bloom in the gardens. They kept their spring feel in their colors, opting for a pastel palette that included blush, pale purples, greens, and even some blues.
“I felt strongly that I wanted my bridesmaids to all to choose their own dresses, and it ended up just by chance that they all got a different pastel color. The effect was perfect and just want I hoped for!” They also added metallic accents, because who doesn’t want a little sparkle on their wedding day?
Lauren and Daniel, along with their venue, wanted their food to WOW their guests. Instead of having a full meal, they went with heavy hors d’oeuvres. “Personally, appetizers are always my favorite and I can eat them all night long.” MOSAIC Catering + Events worked with the couple and came up with some seriously unique dishes.
Favorite Part of the Day
Daniel’s favorite part of the day was walking across Monument Avenue in the sunset with the love of his life and sharing a kiss.
The same goes for Lauren. “It was so nice to get a slight pause from the bustle of the wedding to take a few minutes, just the two of us.” And thanks to their photographer, Kathryn Ivy, the pictures were perfect.
“Decision fatigue!! When you have to make a choice on what feels like a million things day in and day out, it can get really exhausting…especially if you like to research every little thing! It’s tiresome but definitely worth it!”
Best Piece of Advice
“Truly try to determine what things are really important to you, and stick with it. We wanted a great party with good food and drinks for our loved ones, and that’s exactly what we got…In the end, you remember smiling so hard your cheeks hurt, hanging with your besties, and getting to call your fiance your husband.”
