Richmond Wedding Vendor Spotlight: Lasting Florals
Meet Deborah Mooney, the owner & lead designer of Lasting Florals!
Tell us a little about your company!
Lasting Florals combines flora artistry with the beauty of nature to reflect your personalities, theme and venue. We provide personal, professional service for all aspects of your wedding day flowers from beginning to end. Our arrangements are each unique from one another, and we work with only the best quality and freshest flowers available for all budgets.
How did you get started in this business?
I spent my childhood in the flower gardens with my grandmother. The fertile soil in Long Island, NY was perfection for growing anything! This gave me a very good foundation of knowledge at a very young age. I attended advanced art classes and worked with any medium I could, flowers being one of them.
In 1993, my niece was getting married and asked me to design her wedding flowers for a bridal party of 18. I often say she ” planted the seed!” I designed wedding flowers by referrals part time from then until 2003 when I knew this is my life long career choice.
What differentiates you from other businesses in your field?
My design style is extremely versatile, this enables me to create anything for everyone.
Why do you like working with weddings?
Firstly, I love meeting new people that share one of the most important days of their lives with me during our initial meeting, then listening to all the details sparks visual excitement like I’m painting a picture in my mind. Next, I love choosing the palette and then delivering and exceeding expectations. I also love working with two families coming together on a joyful celebration. As a floral artist, I am my worst critic, but I regularly amaze myself, and the reward is the best compliment ever.
What is the most difficult situation you have faced with a bride and how did you resolve it?
It was probably when a hurricane came through several years back. The venue lost power, and the ceremony was supposed to be outdoors. We assured the bride the ceremony would be beautiful by transferring and repurposing all the outdoor decor indoors and creating a candlelight ceremony. We added candlelight to all the centerpieces last minute and calmed the families with our steadfast, last minute decisions.
From a vendor’s perspective, what is the one best piece of advice you can offer to engaged couples?
To have the wedding that YOU want. Choose vendors that you are 100% comfortable with and trust on your wedding day so you are able to enjoy every second knowing that all of the details will be taken care of.
What or who motivates you?
Knowledge, Nature, and Genuine People.
What do you like to do when you are away from work?
Visit new places, socialize, spend time with family and friends. Pretty much anything outdoors.
What would we be surprised to learn about you?
Hmmmmm, I am terrified of snakes. I have a certification as a medical administrator, swim like a fish in the ocean, and have never learned how to drive a stick shift.
