Tell us a little about your company!

Agape Love Events is a premier event planning business that specializes in “month-of/day-of” coordination services for the DIY bride and groom.

How did you get started in this business?

I got started after having the opportunity to coordinate a friend’s wedding three months after I got married. We both were DIY brides and agreed to barter wedding day-of services. I coordinated her wedding and she was our DJ. While coordinating her wedding I was continually asked by the vendors I worked alongside, “Where are your business cards? We’d love to refer you to our clients.” I seriously thought that they were joking. I personally knew how much I enjoyed coordinating weddings, but I found it to be complete confirmation when my friends, their families and vendors all spoke so highly of my services.

What’s your favorite wedding story?

There was a beautiful couple that I worked for who were supposed to get married on the same day a horrible blizzard hit Richmond. Ya’ll, I was terrified because the sweet couple was insisting that they wanted to go forward with the wedding. Unfortunately, many of their vendors were not going to be able to make it to the wedding venue on time because their cars were trapped in their driveways and the governor announced a state of emergency across Virginia. So long story short, we had to reschedule the wedding to a date in February. And guess what? Their wedding day turned out absolutely perfect!

Why do you like working with weddings?

I love coordinating weddings because it allows me to help couples enjoy every second of their celebration with their close friends and family versus worrying about who will sew the bridesmaids dress that accidentally ripped in the back!

From a vendor’s perspective, what is the one best piece of advice you can offer to engaged couples?

I believe it is so important for engaged couples to always remember to focus on nurturing their relationship with their future spouse instead of only focusing on planning the wedding. My hope for all of my couples is that they will have a gorgeous wedding day and enjoy a long healthy marriage!

How far in advance should couples book your services?

I recommend that couples book my services one year to eight months in advance.

What inspires you the most / where do you find inspiration?

I am most inspired by my engaged couples. So many of them are DIY brides and grooms who are juggling grad school, working full-time, or even parenting small children. Knowing how hard they work to plan their dream weddings motivates me to ensure they have the most perfect wedding celebration possible.

What do you like to do when you are away from work?

When I am away from work, I love love love spending quality time with my sweet family (now of four because I gave birth to my second son 8 weeks ago)!! We love our Saturday brunch dance parties and visiting local museums. I also enjoy listening to podcasts, reading devotionals, and reading books about emotional health

What would we be surprised to learn about you?

While studying at Virginia Commonwealth University, I was nominated for the Black History in the Making Award!

    I hired Jasmine as my month-of coordinator and she totally oversold her abilities. She didn't do a majority of what she promised my husband and I she would do. She also didn't complete all of her contractual duties. I would dissuade any brides from working with her in regards to wedding planning. She agreed to check on covid-19 test statuses for our 100 guests with an email my husband set up and she did not do so. In fact, multiple guests were able to attend without submitting their rapid test results which Jasmine promised us she'd handle. On our wedding day Jasmine arrived late, left early (before our sendoff) and was nowhere to be found for the alleged 7 hours that she claims she was on-site. My husband and I collectively saw her & her assistant less than a handful of times throughout our entire wedding day, which is a real shame because we desperately needed their help. We have no idea what she was doing during those hours but she did manage to sign our guestbook??? A warning to brides out there: Jasmine not only left me high and dry but also overwhelmed and stressed on my big day. What's even worse is that Jasmine has not taken any accountability when we shared our above grievances with her.
