Richmond Wedding Vendor Spotlight: Belle Arte String Quartet
Happy June 1st, everyone! We are pleased to introduce you to Nancy, the contractor for Belle Arte String Quartet. When you want beautiful music for your wedding ceremony, cocktail hour or other event, Nancy is your girl!
Tell us a little about your company!
We are a professional string quartet. We have been playing in the Greater Richmond area for over 20 years! We have played at almost every beautiful wedding venue in the area.
How did you get started in this business?
I inherited this position. The original contractor/violinist was retiring. The three others did not have time to fill in, and I was looking for a part-time job as my children were getting older. I learned from the best, the retiring violinist. This was all new to me, but I absolutely love what I am doing.
What differentiates you from other businesses in your field?
All of our musicians are currently or have been members of the Richmond Symphony. Also, all musicians currently earn their living with their instruments; they are not pick-up players just on the weekends. The musicians have very exacting standards to which they play, and they look forward to playing for each event.
We also have a huge repertoire, so not all of the pieces we can play are listed. And we are always bringing in new pieces, some by request.
Why do you like working with weddings?
I love working with my clients and how much of a difference string instruments bring to weddings, one of the most special days in a person’s life. String instruments bring such a classic elegance that cannot be found anywhere else. Each wedding is different, and I love to see the final outcome!
From a vendor’s perspective, what is the one best piece of advice you can offer to engaged couples?
Start early and get the best you can afford. If you can’t afford the full quartet, we offer trios and duos, and the musical effect is still beautiful. Also, don’t be afraid to ask lots of questions, as I tell my clients!
What or who motivates you?
My clients and the musicians I work with. They are the best!

What do you like to do when you are away from work?
I am involved in a lot of volunteering with a couple of groups, one of which works with rescue horses.
What would we be surprised to learn about you?
My background is in accounting, and I used to play the clarinet!
