Meet Daniel Butler, portrait artist at Butler Portraits!  You’ll also be able to meet Daniel at the Richmond Wedding Expo at Altria Theater on Sunday, January 15th!

Tell us a little about your company!

Butler Portraits is the only style of its kind, in at least Virginia. Our pieces are reminiscent of the traditions of the old masters. We spend hours on each individual portrait until we have handcrafted a timeless work of art worthy of becoming a family heirloom.

How did you get started in this business?

I have been learning and practicing the art of portraiture since my Kodak Brownie camera. I recall the passion developing on a kindergarten field trip.

What differentiates you from other businesses in your field?

Butler Portraits is nationally recognized as custom fine portraiture. Our artists craft each piece for hours, days and sometimes weeks perfecting each portrait to our guests’ visions.

Why do you like working with weddings?

Because we are able to create timeless, classical pieces of heirloom-quality art, we are always thrilled to craft one of the most time-honored traditions in fine portraiture: the bridal portrait. It’s often that brides’ mothers had them done, as did their grandmothers, and we are able to help continue that traditions for today’s brides. To gift a bride something that special produces this incredible feeling of satisfaction, confidence and joy. Sharing that with each bride and their families makes all of our work worth it.

From a vendor’s perspective, what is the one best piece of advice you can offer to engaged couples?

With all of the planning involved in a wedding, make sure to take time to treasure the little things, and the big picture of this lifetime milestone. Those are the moments you’ll remember for the rest of your life.

What or who motivates you?

As a multi-form portrait artist, I am driven and inspired by art of all styles and mediums.

What do you like to do when you are away from work?

My number one favorite thing to do is hang out with my daughter.

What would we be surprised to learn about you?

I’ve got 40 years of professional experience under my belt. That catches a lot of people by surprise when they meet me, because that has me starting in my teenage years, but it’s true.
