Real RVA Wedding: Kirsten & Kyle’s Virginia Barn Wedding
Kirsten & Kyle
September 19, 2015
How They Met
Kirsten and Kyle met through mutual friends during their senior year of high school. Kirsten knew all along that Kyle was the one for her, and things finally fell into place during his senior year at Radford University.
How He Asked
Kirsten tells us, “After dating for four years, Kyle proposed in Wrightsville beach in August of 2014. It had rained all week and finally there was a break in the weather. Kyle suggested taking a walk on the beach and as we were, he began talking about all the perfect times he could have proposed and didn’t – we had been horseback riding at Veritas and to a magical dinner at the C&O in Charlottesville where I could have sworn he was going to pop the question! Once he finished listing all the times he could have, he got down on one knee and proposed!
When we got back to the beach house, Kyle played a very sweet home made video of all of our friends saying congratulations!”
The Perfect Place
The two chose Virginia Barn Wedding for its lovely outdoor space and the ability to make it look however they liked. They wanted it to be rustic and romantic but also fresh and clean with lighter colors.
The bride says, “Our colors were mostly neutrals with pinks, but I don’t think we actually sat down and decided what the color scheme would be. We didn’t even decide on what color the bridesmaids dresses would be until finding the perfect ones online and looking at the colors they had to choose from! We decided on grey suits for the guys and a pale pink for the bridesmaids.”
The Details
Kirsten was drawn to natural, dark wooden tables and lighter flowers and accents. “I love the rustic theme and our home is starting to resemble that as well!” With the help of online tutorials, artsy friends and many DIY project weekends, Kyle and Kirsten’s dream wedding came together.
“Kyle’s sister, Emily Smart (also a bridesmaid) is so creative and did all of the calligraphy you see on the table numbers and signs!”
