Vendor Spotlight: Jeaketa Manga with Manga’s Mini Treats
We are excited to introduce you to Jeaketa, owner of Manga’s Mini Treats with you today! She brought us some delicious treats when we met with her and they were mmm-mmm good!
Tell us a little about your company.
Manga’s Mini Treats is a home-based bakery specializing in cupcakes, cake pops, decorated sugar cookies, chocolate chip cookies, blondies, brownies, Dutch oven letter cookies, and other delectable mini treats. We love making treats to match the theme of any wedding or event.
How did you get started in this business?
The bakery started out as a way for me to plan parties for my daughter, but ended up becoming much more than that. In 2014, we were told that our jobs were moving out of state and we could move or separate from the company. I worked in the financial/insurance industry for more than 10 years, but my heart was definitely not in doing that anymore. I had a creative side that would not allow me to be comfortable working in the corporate world any longer. So my husband and I decided it was time for me to turn my dream into reality. Manga’s Mini Treats was born.
What’s your favorite wedding story?
My favorite wedding story would be Ashlee and Nicholas Kurfees. They are two of the sweetest people I have ever met. We all worked together for many years at Nationwide Insurance. I had the opportunity to watch them grow as a couple, so it was such a blessing to be asked to be a part of their special day. We all knew from the beginning that they were made for each other and we patiently awaited a proposal and wedding date. Well about 5 or 6 years later :-), after we all parted ways from the company, they finally got engaged and set the date. The whole day was just amazing. It was a beautiful, outdoor wedding that was so reminiscent of their fun, loving personalities.
Why do you like working with weddings?
I love working with weddings, because I am a romantic at heart. I have been married for almost 11 years and I know how important the cake (or cupcakes in our case) are to the bride and groom. I love being a part of a couple’s special day and seeing the smile on their faces when they see and taste what we have prepared for them. This is not limited to the wedding but includes the rehearsal dinners, the bridal showers, etc. It makes me happy to see others happy.
What is the most difficult situation you have faced with a bride and how did you resolve it?
I honestly have not experienced too many difficult situations, however with the wedding mentioned above we did have some little things. The bride had given instructions on where she wanted the cake table to be, but for some reason the planner had other ideas. It was confusing, however I stayed calm and assured the bride that everything would be fine. The planner and I worked out a way to put the treats out while people were eating so that when it was time for toasts and cake cutting everything would flow smoothly.
From a vendor’s perspective, what is the one best piece of advice you can offer to engaged couples?
I would tell them to enjoy every moment in the process of planning their wedding. Always consider each other no matter what, because the wedding is a pre-cursor to what your life together will be like. Make sure that both of your ideas are incorporated into the wedding.
How far in advance should couples book your services?
For weddings, we ask that the couple book at least 6 months in advance. This will help us to secure their date, schedule tastings, and just make sure that we have everything in place for their special day.
What inspires you the most / where do you find inspiration?
I find inspiration in my surroundings. Whether I am at the beach looking at the water or riding through our city looking at billboards, I always have creativity on the brain. I also love patterns and colors and tend to think of ways to incorporate these things into my designs.
What do you like to do when you are away from work?
I love to read! I am an avid reader and sometimes I find myself up late at night engrossed in a good book. I also love a good cup of coffee.
What would we be surprised to learn about you?
I am a naturally shy individual. The reason you would be surprised is because if you met me, you would not believe this. I love people and I seem very outgoing :-).
