We are delighted to introduce you to Joshua Glossner, Event Coordinator with Canon & Draw Brewing Company Josh has years of experience in the event industry and can ensure your wedding and/or all festivities leading into the wedding day go off without a hitch! How did you get to where you are now?
I began my career in event management almost by happenstance. After working primarily as a server for most of college, I was looking to expand my skills and resume when I moved to Northern Virginia in 2016. I remember during a Fourth of July barbecue that year, a colleague recommended I apply for an Event Assistant position for Clyde’s of Gallery Place, a busy D.C. restaurant next to the Capital One Arena. It was here that I discovered I had a joy and talent for organizing amazing events for my clients. My skills were put to the test upon accepting the Events Manager position for Alexandria Restaurant Partners in Alexandria, V.A., where I coordinated events for six restaurants! It sounds daunting, but it was fulfilling to streamline procedures to execute events for the restaurant group. Each restaurant had its own concept, so I got a taste of everything from authentic Italian cuisine to casual dockside grill specializing in seafood. Then, the age-old story for many event managers — Covid hit, and I was unfortunately laid off shortly after I moved to Richmond. But don’t despair, dear friends – I was able to expand my catering experience by becoming a sous chef for Publix’s Aprons Cooking School in Glen Allen. It was here I was finally able to understand how long it takes to prep on the kitchen side for events, as up to this point, I was most familiar with front-of-house procedures. Today, I am fortunate enough to work as Event Coordinator again for Canon & Draw Brewing Company in the beautiful Fan District of Richmond (and Steam Bell Beer Works in Midlothian, under the same owners).

What makes you or your business stand out and why should a couple hire you?
I know how stressful it can be planning a wedding – trust me, I’m in the middle of planning my own right now for October 2022!

When couples work with me, I’m here to offer an easy, stress-free planning experience. I aim to respond in a timely manner with open, honest communication to help you choose what is best for your special day. What makes it event better is that Canon & Draw Brewing Company’s tasting room has 5,000 square feet of space to create your dream wedding reception! We are able to provide customized catering options to fit almost any budget, but also allow outside catering should you want to feature your favorite local cuisine. Our draft list has a drink for everyone’s tastes. We have the classics (pilsners, light lager, pale ale) and selections for the adventurous, such as the Fruit ‘N Cream milkshake IPA series and DIY hard seltzers with nearly 10 flavor shot options. My favorite is the Corrosive Haze Sour IPA series – the current edition with Pineapple & Mango is delicious! For an extra dose of uniqueness, we have quite a few connections with local entertainment from musicians to comedians & drag queens.

What’s your favorite thing about working in the wedding industry?
The joy I get from executing the perfect event is like a boost of serotonin. Seeing a perfect wedding day go off without a hitch is the ultimate delight for me as an event coordinator. The more stress and planning I can take off your plate, the better!

What’s your best piece of advice for couples planning a wedding?
As someone who’s planning their own wedding right now, the best piece of advice I can give is to ask for help when you need it. It can be overwhelming at times! Sometimes asking your event coordinator/wedding planner to steer you in the right direction can be the best thing to get you out of a rut while planning. It may feel awkward to ask for help, but in the end, you’ll be happy that a piece of the stress and anxiety can be taken off your plate during the big day.

What are your favorite wedding trends right now?
While white is always the classic color for weddings, I love a good splash of color. My wedding colors are navy blue and blush pink, which is very on trend at the moment. Virtual save-the-dates and invitations are a lifesaver, too! While I sent some invitations to immediate family, it saved so much time to get the information out quickly and efficiently to guests.

If you care to share, what’s a funny/awesome story from a wedding you’ve worked?
Last year, I helped my mom in planning and setting up for her wedding in Pennsylvania. In an effort to help her planning, she had ordered her cake through the Publix store I worked at – thus I made the trek for a 5 1/2 hour drive to the venue the day before to deliver her beautiful cake. Thankfully, no issues, but you can imagine me white-knuckling the steering wheel the entire way to make sure nothing upset it!

How do you de-stress?
My happy place is being by the pool or beach with a cold drink in my hand – preferably a cider, IPA or orange crush. It’s the best place for me to clear my mind and be in the moment.

What’s your favorite food/dish/cuisine?
My fiancé, Frank, is Peruvian, and it wasn’t until dating him that I discovered the magic of Peru’s cuisine. If you’ve never had Lomo Saltado (Peru’s version of a steak stir-fry) or Tallarines Verdes (Peruvian pesto noodles), you are missing out! Every year for my birthday, my future mother-in-law has cooked me Lomo Saltado, and it never gets old.

If you were to meet any celebrity, who would it be?
Janet Jackson – hands down. She is the queen. I saw her in concert in 2017 and it’s still one of the best I’ve been to.

What’s a fun or unusual fact about you?
I love going to Trivia Nights. I like to think I’m a rolodex of pop culture knowledge. If there’s a “name that song” round, you best believe I’m going to know most of the songs played.

What’s the coolest thing you’re working on now?
Aside from planning my own wedding, I’m working on Canon & Draw’s entertainment schedule for this summer! Over the next few months, we will have comedy shows, drag bingo, live music and a 90’s-themed party with local band Max Power and a costume contest.

What’s the best concert you’ve ever been to?
I’ve been to my fair share of concerts, so it’s hard to pick just one! Janet Jackson and Garth Brooks both put on amazing shows. Recently, I had the pleasure of going to my first music festival at Firefly in Delaware, where I saw Megan Thee Stallion, Lizzo, Nelly and Machine Gun Kelly all within one day!

What is your most used emoji?
The crying eyes laughing emoji! I love laughing with friends and family to the point of tears. 😂 🤣

What is your favorite season of the year and why?
Fall, for many reasons. It’s when I first met my fiance. Hikes are at its most beautiful with the leaves changing colors. And once the season hits, it’s officially Halloween time! Time to bust out the classics (Halloween, Scream, Hocus Pocus, Halloweentown)
