Looking for a girl-boss to help you with all your event rental needs? Meet Lynn, Events and Rental Coordinator with Acca Shrine Center! Keep reading to meet the woman who turned her passion for weddings into the perfect occupation!
If you care to share, how did you get to where you are now – what drew you to the wedding industry? I was interviewing for the job of Office Manager at the Acca Shrine Center, when my boss mentioned that they were going to hire a rental manager also, I immediately let him know that the events and rental manager was the job for me!
What’s your favorite thing about working in the wedding industry? I have always loved to hear the stories of how a couple met. It can be so random. Some couples that I have had the pleasure of working with met as early as middle school, many have met online, I have had several couples that have been together for years and have children together and have decided to tie the knot. I have one couple that has been together over 30 years, and they are getting married here in May.
What’s your best piece of advice for couples planning a wedding? Hire a coordinator even if it is just for the wedding day.
What advice would you give to someone just starting their own business? Network, network, network. I ran a small business for 20 years, don’t let the business consume you, make time for yourself, loved ones and friends.
What is your favorite ‘first dance’ song? You Send Me, Sam Cooke
How do you de-stress? My boyfriend and I love to dance! We crank up the disco ball and get our groove on.
What is the last book you read, or movie you watched? I am re-reading Anna Quindlen’s Still Life With Breadcrumbs. My favorite book is Sue Monk Kidd’s The Secret Life of Bees
What’s a fun or unusual fact about you? When my kids were young, I could make Kraft macaroni and cheese while blindfolded. I wanted to enter the Mrs. Virginia Pageant and that would be my talent. I chickened out because of the bathing suit competition.
Do you love to travel? If so, what are some must-see destinations or where to next? I have not had the opportunity to do much traveling overseas. I am going to Israel in November to see my sister and her family.
Anything else you want our followers to know? We have one of the largest ballrooms in the Richmond area. We recently had a large Valentine’s Day Dance with over 400 people seated at tables and chairs with a large dance floor and a live band on our stage.
