Vendor Spotlight: Mario Guevara with MOSAIC Catering + Events
Meet Mario Guevara, Catering Sales + Event Producer for MOSAIC Catering + Events.
What makes you or your business stand out and why should a couple hire you?
One of the most important things that stands out about Mosaic is that we can deliver a completely customized event from food to decor. As Event Producers having both a stellar chef team and an incredible production/lighting crew not only allows us to execute one of a kind events but do so on a level that is sure to please even the most particular of clients
What’ a weird/unusual tip you tell you couples?
To not get boxed in by our online menu! It is so easy for people to get their minds set on a service style, buffet menu, etc just because it is all they saw on a preset menu. Given that we are a 95% from-scratch kitchen, the possibilities are truly endless when it comes to creating an exciting menu all guests will enjoy.
What’s your favorite thing about what you do?
I would say that moment during the event when you see a menu idea, design scheme, and logistical plan go from paper to reality. When you work for months to a year or more with a client on all of the small details of an event it is incredibly satisfying to see it all come to fruition.
How did you get to where you are now?
8 years ago I was hired as an Event and Marketing Manager at a restaurant gourmet group in South Carolina, and fell in love with planning and managing events. After leaving I took on a job as the Special Events Manager for the Columbia Museum of Art, where I managed and sold the museum as a venue as well as planned and executed fundraising events and annual galas with the Development Department. Then February of 2019, after 28 years in SC, moved up to Richmond to explore both a new city and new event scene.
What’s something every couple should know before getting married?
No matter how prepared you are for the big day, there is always going to be something you are going to need help with, so don’t be afraid to ask for assistance. I will always suggest for couples to consider, in the least, a Day of Coordinator so they can enjoy the day stress-free!
What’s your go-to spot to eat in RVA?
I’m torn between Mom’s Siam and Kuba Kuba, living in the Fan has spoiled me with having so many amazing restaurants to choose from!
What did you want to be when you were little?
I wanted to be an entertainer, which I’d like to believe in this industry we do every day.
What was your first job?
I worked as a host, busboy, and food runner for The Other Pancake House in SC
What did you eat for breakfast this morning?
I have always eaten the same ridiculously huge breakfast for the past couple years: 3 boiled eggs, half of a baked sweet potato, raw carrots, raw kale, and 2 tangerines
What do you like to do when you are away from work? Or where is your happy place?
My happy place would have to be sitting on the lawn of the VMFA during Friday happy hour with my friends and a bottle of wine, enjoying the sun, conversation, and energy.
What’s your newest Netflix obsession?
Honestly any horror movie, whether it is absolutely terrifying or hysterically bad.
What’s your go-to dance move?
I spin and twirl, a lot.
