If you’re on the fence about doing engagement photos, there are some things you may want to consider. The engagement session allows you and the photographer to work together in a more relaxed setting without the tight time schedule of a typical wedding day. It’s also a fun way for your personality and interests to shine through with props, attire, and poses.

When putting together your wedding, engagement photos might not be on the top of your “must-have”
list. Sometimes the reason is financial. You may be trying to cut out the “extras” in order to pare down your budget. Maybe you don’t view it as a necessary part of the planning process. Other times, it’s a matter of being uncomfortable in front of the camera. But with this trend rising, many photographers have opted to add this into their wedding packages for free!

Engagement sessions are the best opportunity for your photographer to get to know you before the day of the wedding. Plus, it allows time for you to get comfortable in front of the camera. After posing for one, you’ll find that your wedding day photography will go smoothly and much more comfortably.

Before your engagement session, some photographers will want to have a face-to-face meeting with the two of you. During that meeting, you’ll be able to ask questions as well as address any concerns you might have. Some of these may include:

  • Should I get my hair and makeup done by a professional?
  • What should we wear? Should we color coordinate?
  • What kind of props do you recommend? Any we shouldn’t bring?

More than anything, your engagement session is a nice way to start getting excited about your wedding. It’ll all start to feel so real! Include the gorgeous pictures on your save-the-dates, wedding website, and of course on your social media! Get your friends and family excited for one of the biggest days of your life!
