Taylor + Grier
October 10, 2020

How it began
Taylor and Grier met in December 2013 just before Christmas. “We both happened to be out for a mutual friend’s birthday, and another friend introduced us. A couple drinks later, numbers were exchanged! Our first date was after Christmas a few weeks later. We both knew early on we had each found someone special.”

The proposal
Grier chose a meaningful location to the couple, their yearly summer vacation spot in Southern Shores, NC, to pop the question.  Grier wrote “I asked her if she wanted to take our dog for a walk on the beach at sunset and totally caught her off guard. I used the diamond from my mother’s engagement ring (who had passed away a few years prior), so that made it extra special.”

All about the wedding day
When Taylor and her grandmother attended tea time at Hanover Tavern, she knew it was the perfect spot to be married.  Taylor says “In addition to it being a beautiful venue, it was a one stop shop. The Tavern catered and provided all tables, chairs, linens, etc. We’re all about convenience. Tammy with the Hanover Tavern was also wonderful to work with!”

On the wedding day the couple had their first look followed by a private vow exchange before the ceremony. “We really wanted to have an intimate moment before celebrating with everyone. We also walked down the aisle together, which was out of the ordinary but suited us perfectly. We’re a team, and wanted our ceremony to reflect that!” The vibe for the day was classic and timeless with natural touches. Grier’s father also built and stained an arbor for the ceremony.

The WOW factor
“The ceremony. We knew walking out together is very uncommon, and I think guests were definitely “wow’d” in a good way! Also, our corgi got to join us and everyone always enjoys seeing him.”

Favorite part of the day
According to both, their favorite part was the first look and private vow exchange. “As much as we love our friends and family and celebrating with them, it was special to have time that was just for us.”

Biggest challenge
“Like any couple that got married in 2020, COVID introduced some stress and uncertainty into the planning. Since we had a 2 year engagement, we had a bulk of our wedding planning completed pre-COVID. We held out hope that with an October wedding we wouldn’t need to change anything. By August 2020, we realized that wouldn’t be the case and the stress really kicked in. We initially invited about 100 people, and fortunately everyone was so understanding when we decided to go the small, intimate route for safety. Tammy with the Hanover Tavern was so accommodating and did so much to make sure we could still get married on our date. We were unable to use some of our vendors due to COVID restrictions. They were so understanding of our situation which we really appreciated. We consider ourselves so lucky that we still got to have such an incredible wedding and reception.”
