Rebecca and Tanner had their first date on a hotel rooftop in Washington DC for what was supposed to be “just drinks”. The conversation kept flowing, which made drinks turn into dinner, then dinner turned into a trip to a piano jazz bar until the bar closed! 5 years and 10 months later, Tanner asked Rebecca to meet him for drinks to meet his boss for the first time. When Rebecca arrived, she saw Tanner sitting alone with two drinks on the table and undone napkins. To solve her confusion, Tanner quickly said his boss was in the bathroom. After she settled in her seat, Tanner dropped to one knee and asked her to marry him.
The wedding venue the couple chose is co-owned and operated by the bride’s father. It was special to get married at a location that holds much meaning to the family. The weekend included a golf tournament, rehearsal dinner, welcome party, and the wedding, all hosted at The Estate at Independence.
About one month prior to the wedding, Rebecca and Tanner drove down from DC to bury the bourbon at 5 am. This tradition was extra special to the couple as they buried it at the base of a tree planted in honor of the bride’s late grandmother, knowing she would provide them a little extra luck on their wedding day.
The day before the wedding, a golf tournament was hosted in honor of the groom, the “Tan-Man Invitational” or TMI. The golf course flags were replaced with flags with outlines of the groom’s face on them and the entire staff wore hats with “TMI” on them and T-shirts with his face logo on them too!
The ceremony was decorated with unstructured florals and natural wood and the band had the crowd piled on the dance floor all night long. This made the wedding exactly how the couple wanted it, timeless, fun, rustic, romantic, and magical.
